Continuing Education
A couple of weeks ago Alfred was reading several newspaper articles which mentioned that medical associations are recommending for everyone, including high school students to take CPR and First Aid courses, some went on to suggest a tax credit for the courses.
As health care professionals it is mandatory to have current CPR and First Aid to maintain our certifications. A couple of weeks ago Alfred updated both CPR and First Aid with about twenty other fitness professionals at the Steve Nash Sports Club on Granville street. |
Kinesiology Gains Recognition in BC
by Alfred Ball |
It is clear from a recent news story on CTV Television that having a Kinesiology degree is valued by consumers, fitness centres and third party payers (ICBC, Disability Insurance and Health Benefits providers). It is poignant that a news story about a well known gym claiming that their Personal Trainers have Kinesiologists on staff, when they don't have their degrees came to light near the end of Canadian Kinesiology Week.

Paying Tribute to a Client Who Loved the Grind
by Alfred Ball |

She had difficulty with balance and climbing stairs. During the last several years of her life she discovered the Grouse Grind, something she enjoyed doing every summer. After each climb she collected her tram tickets down and recorded her time on the back of the papers; in the end it was 118 times. Read Full Article |
Persevering Through the Rain to Reach 100 Grouse Grinds
by Alfred Ball |
On Saturday morning I woke up to the rain and the prospect of it not letting up. It did not matter what the weather was like when I awoke becuase it was my mission this weekend to finish my quest to reach 100 lifetime Grouse Grinds. This is to honour of Barbara, who in her lifetime completed over 100 climbs despite a brain injury that made it challenging to walk. When she passed away earlier this year I knew that reaching my 100th climb this season was how I could pay tribute to her admirable courage and perseverance. I had pushed through a dark soggy climb on Friday morning and had reached number 97.
