When do you know you are well hydrated?

The best way to tell if out bodies are well hydrated is by the colour of our urine. Everyone has different hydration needs that change day to day. Level of activity, temperature and what we eat that day determines how much water we need to drink in order to be hydrated. It is therefore not accurate to assume we are hydrated after drinking 8 glasses of water per day.

We balance our bodies needs of water and electrolytes through excreting excessive amounts of either component through the urine. When our urine is a lighter colour it's our body's way of telling us there is enough water in the system.

    Greetings!

Welcome to the fall, one of my favorite times of year. I like it because I know that winter is just around the corner and snow will be on the mountains so I can cross country ski and snowshoe.

The fall is also when we settle back into our schedules after the summer holidays. How are you planning to stay active during the winter? If it is downhill skiing or snowboarding we are working on a snow-fit program to help you feel fit and help you prevent injuries. Please email Nicola@lifemoves.ca if you are interested.

Do you have a friend or family member who you think can benefit from Kinesiology sessions? Nicola and Leah have openings for new clients - please call 604.283.1858 to book a consultation.

Training Respiratory Muscles to Increase Endurance
    by  Alfred Ball
Recent discussion on the Grouse Grind® Facebook page made me curious whether or not Alternating Nostril Breathing (ANB) or Respiratory Muscle Training (RMT) could lead to faster times up the mountain. The ultimate goal in endurance events is to be able to move faster at lower heart rates and lower ventilation rates while also maximizing the use of oxygen.
Can A Mouthguard Improve Athletic Performance?
    by Leah Grossmith
Our body is an interconnected and reactive system. Poor alignment in one joint such as the left shoulder will create an opposite and equal reaction, usually in the right hip so that we remain balanced even though this is not optimal alignment for proper function. How can we easily make the shift back?

Light to Moderate Exercise Proven to Benefit Epileptics
    by Brielle Perler
Is the fear of seizures preventing you from participating in physical activity? Numerous studies have proven exercise to be beneficial for epileptics, in some cases preventing or decreasing intensity of seizures.
Stretching Tip - Unwid the Fascia Fuzz
    by Alfred Ball
Trigger Point Therapy ProductsThe fuzz is the sliding surface between the muscles. We feel stiff in the morning because the fuzz becomes solidified. Stretching in the morning helps melts the fuzz same as when you move.
