Greetings!
Welcome to the fall, one of my favorite times of year. I like it because I know that winter is just around the corner and snow will be on the mountains so I can cross country ski and snowshoe.
The fall is also when we settle back into our schedules after the summer holidays. How are you planning to stay active during the winter? If it is downhill skiing or snowboarding we are working on a snow-fit program to help you feel fit and help you prevent injuries. Please email Nicola@lifemoves.ca if you are interested.
Do you have a friend or family member who you think can benefit from Kinesiology sessions? Nicola and Leah have openings for new clients - please call 604.283.1858 to book a consultation.
August was a fantastic month for client successes, scroll down to read about some amazing accomplishments.
In this Issue: We explore how training respiratory muscles increases endurance. Learn how a mouthguard improves athletic performance and what types of exercises are beneficial for people with epilepsy. With BodyWorlds in Vancouver we delve into the world of fascia with our stretching tip.

Training Respiratory Muscles to Increase Endurance
by Alfred Ball
|
Recent discussion on the Grouse Grind® Facebook page made me curious whether or not Alternating Nostril Breathing (ANB) or Respiratory Muscle Training (RMT) could lead to faster times up the mountain. The ultimate goal in endurance events is to be able to move faster at lower heart rates and lower ventilation rates while also maximizing the use of oxygen.

Our body is an interconnected and reactive system. Poor alignment
in one joint such as the left shoulder will create an opposite and
equal reaction, usually in the right hip so that we remain balanced
even though this is not optimal alignment for proper function. How can
we easily make the shift back? Read full article.

Stretching Tip - Unwid the Fascia Fuzz by Alfred Ball |
The fuzz is the sliding surface between the muscles. We feel stiff in the morning because the fuzz becomes solidified. Stretching in the morning helps melts the fuzz same as when you move.
