Greetings!

Summer is often the time for holidays and outside play which means the fitness centres see a drop-in attendance.  This time of year we have been filling our schedule with by helping local college and Junior Canadian team athletes recover from their injuries and prepare for the next season.

We hosted our first fundraiser on July 10th for  Cystic Fibrosis Canada. We would like to thank  everyone who participated and donated. We are also working on some exciting projects to enhance our services and help us share our knowledge with you.

In this issue: Brielle discusses exercise options for those with scoliosis,  Nicola begins a series on shoulder injury rehabilitation, and Leah gets into the details of what to expect during and after a total knee replacement complete with a couple of surgical videos. I share with how I felt during and after Seek the Peak on July 4th and give some tips on how to stay happy.

Our stretch tip is a calf stretch to help you reduce knee pain while doing lunges, deadlifts and squats. This translates to sports such as tennis, basketball and hiking.

I gave you the wrong link in last month's Quick Poll, so please click here to guess what the strongest muscle in our body is.

During the tough economy, Lifemoves actually grew by 15%. We are grateful to all of our clients who have helped us achieve this. As a client and subscriber, you were part of our success and we thank you!

Please help spread the word by forwarding this newsletter, referring your friends and family, and joining our Facebook page.

If you are fan of Lifemoves, think we have an excellent business and live in North Vancouver please take the time let your community know by nominating me or Lifemoves for the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce's annual business excellence awards, click here.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

What to Expect Before, During & After Total Knee Replacement
by  Leah Grossmith
As total knee replacements become more common, some of our clients have questions about staying active before and after surgery, as well as questions about the surgery itself. Those who are very active want to keep their current lifestyle and activity levels post-surgery. A common misconception is that once you have a total knee replacement, you can no longer be active on the knee. We have some pointers for what you can expect. Read full article.
Shoulder Injury Rehabilitation Range of Motion Exercises - Part I
by Nicola Faloon
The first stage of shoulder injury rehabilitation is to restore range of motion. The shoulders are host to the most flexible and movable joints in your body, consisting of a ball and socket and a floating shoulder blade held on your ribs by muscle. It is unstable in nature and needs the help of muscles, tendons and ligaments to keep its three bones in place - the clavicle, scapula, and humerus. Due to their instability, the shoulders are a common site for injuries such as fractures, dislocations, torn rotator cuffs, frozen shoulders, separations, tendinitis, arthritis, bursitis, sprains and strains. by Alfred Ball
Ever since I was bullied in high school, I have had trouble being happy with my accomplishments. The art of being happy is connected to the gap between our actual self and our ideal self. How often do we live in the gap between these two when we don't meet our goals? Living in the gap keeps us unhappy  Read full article to stop living in the gap
