Greetings!

Welcome to spring. The bears are not the only ones who come out of hibernation. Now is the time we start to venture outside and explore what the outdoors offers. In Metro Vancouver there are so many different ways to explore and stay active, from hiking and walking trails throughout the city and mountains, to an increasing number of cycling routes and mountain biking trails, to kayaking, dragon boating and golfing. Use your imagination and do what you enjoy.

April showers bring May flowers and new additions to Lifemoves. Sahba will be available full time at the end of April. We are also interviewing for one or two new team members. We are excited that we are being sought as a destination for starting a Kinesiology career from as far away as Ontario.

Knee pain and knee injuries seem to be a very dominant part of our practice. Whether it is an ACL reconstruction you are recovering from while trying to get back to playing soccer, or you have an arthritic knee and want to walk more easily, a Lifemoves Kinesiologist can help guide your exercise program.

In this issue we have a beginner program to help strengthen your legs and reduce muscle imbalances. We also have the answer to last month's Quick Poll question in Stretch Tip.

Sincerely,

Alfred Ball

Beginner Strength Training Tips for Limiting Knee Pain During Hiking
North and West Vancouver are prime destinations for hiking because the mountains are very accessible. Some of our clients live next door to several different trails and enjoy this activity from the spring up until the first snowfall. Knee pain may be experienced while hiking; it can largely be prevented with proper exercise progressions. Read Full Article
3 Steps to Predicting Endurance Performance
It is often difficult to predict our performance in athletic events and in business. Remember, we can only predict our own performance, not our placement. Sometimes we get caught up in gathering more and more information because we think we don't have enough to make a precise or accurate decision to achieve our desired result. Or we get stuck thinking that we don't have any information.Even our gut instinct is going on some information that we have, but may not be entirely aware of. Read Full Article
Stretch Tip - How Long to Hold Each Stretch
Last month we asked what the optimal amount of time is to hold a stretch to improve flexibility. We often hear from our clients that they hold stretches for 15 to 60 seconds, but do not know why. Read Full Article to find out how long and the reason behind it.
