Canine Registration

What does the Canine Classic have to do with Moving to End Sexual Assault?

For many years, Moving to End Sexual Assault organized the Spring Run Off at the Boulder Reservoir.  It was a 5K/10K Run and it was a great event but there was always something missing.   One day when the staff was walking the many dogs associated with MESA, it came to them - have a run/walk with dogs!  What better place to do this then Boulder County?  Boulder is known for many things:  world class athletes, CU Boulder,  being very Green and for being so dog friendly!  Dogs everywhere!  So, in 2000 the Spring Run Off became the Canine Classic and last year there were 750 dogs at the event!

2008 Canine Classic LogoThe other very important issues is that sexual assault is a tough subject for everyone so having this very lighthearted event and all of those dogs provide an opportunity for people to be involved in celebration.   The Canine Classic is about celebrating how far we have come since MESA started in 1972 and how many people MESA has helped heal and overcome the trauma of sexual assault.  The Canine Classic is an opportunity for individuals to help participate in the healing of others and working towards preventing sexual assault.   The act of joining 1100 people and 750 dogs walking/running around the Boulder Reservoir with the mountains in the background can be very healing for those that have been sexually assaulted and for those that has had a loved one sexually assaulted.   It is an opportunity to realize you are not alone and there is a community of support.

We encourage everyone to register and participate in this years Canine Classic on Sunday, April 19th at the Boulder Reservoir.   Here is some key information:

Group Therapy

MESA offers a variety of group therapy options for individuals affected by sexual assault both survivors of sexual assault and their loved ones.  If you feel this might be an option for you, please call or email.  Your call is anonymous and it is an opportunity for you to see if this might be an option to you.   Some of the types of group therapy offered:

Therapy Group for Secondary Survivors of Sexual Assault
Having a close relationship with a person who has been sexually abused can have an emotional, physical, social and spiritual impact on your well-being.  Participating in a group is a safe and effective way to cope with your feelings and receive education on how to support your loved one.

Art Therapy Group
This is a safe place and group environment to help the healing after experiencing sexual assault and abuse. Through the use of painting, clay, collage, and writing you will have the opportunity to release, express, and regain wholeness.  No art experience necessary.  Available for Teens and adults

Therapy Group for Adult Sexual Assault Survivors
Explore how sexual assault impacts you, your family, your partner and your friends.  Unwanted sexual experiences can affect your emotional, physical, social and spiritual well-being.  Group therapy is an effective way to heal from the trauma of sexual violence.

Wild at Heart
Be a part of the mutual healing of horse and human. Moving to End Sexual Assault, Colorado Horse Rescue, and Wild at Heart are collaborating to partner individuals with a history of sexual trauma and horses who have experienced neglect and abuse. The extraordinary sensitivity of horses and their unique capacity to heal with patience and regain trust will inspire and challenge the work of men in recovery to regain mastery and confidence in their own lives. Each individual will partner with one horse for the duration of the group. No horse experience is required.
