Rape Crisis Hotline

Volunteer as an advocate on the 24-Hour Crisis Hotline. A Volunteer Hotline Advocate is often the first point of contact for those affected by sexual assault. You can make a difference by offering non-judgmental emotional support, crisis counseling, and resource information to victims of sexual assault and other interested parties. We offer a comprehensive training program for hotline volunteers, giving you the tools to feel comfortable and successful in this important position.

Training starts on Monday, February 9th and will run for a month.   It is not too late  - email today!

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week (TDVAW)

Teen Dating Violence is a national epidemic that is often not recognized until its too late. There is no certain area of town where dating violence can be found; no particular race where it breeds faster. In fact, Teen Dating Violence knows no race, color or religion. It sees no social class, education level or gender. It is nationwide and in every school where teens are dating and engaged in relationships.

The reality is that the only way to stop it is to intervene.
  • At least one out of every five teenagers have been hit or slapped by their partner.
  • At least one out of every four teenagers have experienced isolation or attempted isolation from their family because of their partner.
  • At least one out of every three teenagers have been scared that their partner would hurt them physically.

That's not girls...that's teens.  The  Peer Building Justice Peer Educators have been working around the clock getting ready for TDVAW.   The PBJ Peer Educators will be on the Pearl Street Mall on Saturday, February 7th from 11am - 2 pm with some music, spoken word, lollipops and other fun activities.  It is there hope that they can help bring awareness to other teens about dating violence.    Stop by and see them.    (Make sure to get a a really cool pin that says "Dating Violence Sucks!")
