Florence Knoll: Defining Modern 
 

Presenter: Nancy Wright

This program is an illustrative discussion of Florence Knoll's contribution to interior design in the context of her landmark 2005 exhibition for the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This exhibition has been traveling to college and university art galleries. Most recently, the exhibition was showcased at the University of Cincinnati.

 

 

Sustainability Assessment for Carpet Standards  

Presenter: Kim Lombardozzi

At the end of this program, participants will be able to 

  • discuss the need for sustainability carpet standards
  • discuss NSF/ANSI 140 environmental impact categories
  • specify sustainable carpet
  • evaluate and compare the sustainable features of carpet
  • assess the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) and LCC (Life Cycle Cost) of sustainable carpet.

  

Acoustics II:  Speech Privacy in Office Design

Presenter: Phil Caito  

This presentation reviews research documenting the link between office noise and worker effectiveness. The program addresses special acoustical issues in open plan offices, and the key measurements to use when selecting acoustical ceilings for open plan environments. Finally, the course outlines a balanced acoustical design approach to use when selecting ceilings, furniture systems and masking to enhance speech privacy.

 

Nancy Wiersma Wright, IIDA, LEED AP

Nancy Wiersma Wright is the architecture and design manager for Knoll in Indiana, central Ohio and Kentucky. She has a degree in commercial interior design and practiced design for 15 years prior to joining the furniture industry in 2000. Nancy is active in the local Indianapolis IIDA, ASID, IIDC and USGBC chapters and strives to keep abreast of the issues facing the design and architectural community.Since becoming LEED accredited in 2003, Nancy devotes a great deal of time to educating the architecture and design community on sustainability as it relates to the furniture industry and how designers and architects can make green choices in their everyday design solutions. Nancy remains involved with the design programs of colleges and universities in Indiana, serving on various advisory boards and acting as a judge for projects and competitions.

Kimberly Ann Lombardozzi, IIDA, LEED AP ID+C
Kim Lombardozzi is a sustainability manager for the Mohawk Group, which consists of Karastan Contract, Lees Carpet, Bigelow Commercial and Durkan Hospitality. She is based in Chicago, IL. Her background includes 13 years of carpet sales experience and 10 years of commercial interior design experience. Four of these years she owned her own interior design firm. Kim's most recent United States Green Building Council (USGBC) participation has been as host committee co-chair of GreenBuild 2010 in Chicago and she  holds the appointed position of Heartland Regional Council representative for the Illinois chapter, reporting to the United StatesGreen Building Council.
She is a founding member of the USGBC Chicago chapter and has been on the board from 2003  to 2008. In 2007, she served as chairperson. She is a LEED-accredited professional and served on the board of the Illinois Recycling Association for three years.

Philip J. Caito, LEED AP

Phil Caito is the manager for Armstrong Building Products, a division of Armstrong World Industries, in Indiana. Armstrong World Industries Inc. is a global leader in the design and manufacturing of floors, ceilings and cabinets with a focus on innovation, design and environmental sustainability. The company's global acoustical ceiling and suspension systems business is 90% commercial: offices, healthcare, education, retail, transportation and other segments.
