What Is the Right Color for You?
by Nathan Hammett, Mohawk Residential

Colorists and designers find inspiration in many areas, including fashion, trade shows, trend-forecasting groups and global events.
We are excited to share these influences with you.

Five words define current trends in color and design: Comfort, Celebration, Responsibility, Nostalgia and Intrigue.

Comfort colorComfort epitomizes the back-to-basics neutralpalettes of both the apparel and home furnishing industries. Considered a dependable, risk-free option, these shades are being warmly embraced. "Earth-inspired" colors create a Zen aesthetic. Tinted beiges are pulling greys toward them, creating a directional shift to the warmer side. Comfort colors such as cocoa, cinnamon and parchment are grey's companions
of choice.

Celebration colorCelebration
shades make a strong accent statement in each of our themes.
This concept translates into both traditional
and eclectic interiors as well as
contemporary spaces.

Responsibility colorResponsibility
is a segment of the environmental movement. As technology has continued to develop, manufacturers are able to offer more attractive and colorful items that meet or exceed eco-requirements. Low-impact dyes and dying methods were created, allowing for a larger range of colors to be developed in organic fibers.

Nostalgia colorNostalgia represents our yearning for the less complicated. In today's economic climate, we are looking to the past for comfort, warmth and security. This trend has produced traditional colors and designs as well as eclectic mixes in upbeat hues and edgy styling. Colors in this theme have a vintage feel but are still quite fresh when applied to fabric, wall coverings, carpet and area rugs.

Intrigue colorIntrigue is also reminiscent of an earlier era. Deep rich color is making a huge statement in both apparel and home furnishings. Intrigue is dark, deep romance. It has an aura of fantasy that is present in today's pop culture. These shades evoke a new beginning with an Old World flair. This look is luxurious and sophisticated.
