UCCS Forms Partnership with University of Zagreb, Republic of Croatia |
 The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs will work as a partner to the University of Zagreb, Republic of Croatia, to help build an Eastern Europe Center of Excellence in Homeland Security. Mike Perini, executive director, National Institute of Science, Space and Security Centers at UCCS announced the partnership between UCCS, the University of Zagreb and the City of Zagreb. The partnership is an extension of the Center for Homeland Security, a division within NISSSC. ( More)

UCCS Professor Receives $1.5 Million Grant to Improve Student Math Skills |

 A successful program to teach math to non-English speakers will be modified to teach youngsters with disabilities skills considered vital for success in the 21st century. Lindy Crawford, associate professor, Education, recently received a $1.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support a three-year project designed to assist students with math learning disabilities. The goal is that students will successfully engage in grade-appropriate math instruction. ( More) |

Faculty Reminisces as Nation Marks 40th Anniversary of Lunar Landing |
 David Schmidt admits to wearing horn-rimmed spectacles and looking a lot like the men depicted as 1960s NASA workers in the film "Apollo 13."
"But I promise, I didn't have a pocket protector," Schmidt, professor emeritus of mechanical and aerospace engineering, said recently. "And my slide rule was hidden in my briefcase." ( More) |

Prestigious Scholarship Awarded to Business Student |

 The William G. McGowan Charitable Fund recently awarded a scholarship valued at $18,000 to an undergraduate UCCS student. DiHanna-Dimitra Pantazis, Glencoe, Minnesota, received the scholarship, the first awarded at UCCS. "I feel honored and humbled to be the recipient of the William G. McGowan Scholarship and proudly accept this award with profound gratitude," Pantazis said. ( More) |
