This month, we encourage you to attend an event on campus. From Mountain Lion Research Day on April 3 to the Career Fair and Black and Gold Goes Green on April 9, we've got many opportunities for you to return to your alma mater and witness the changes taking place.

$5.5 Million Gift to Boost Student Scholarships
 
Clock TowerA $5.5 million gift will be used to support student scholarships and other high-priority goals at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, university officials announced on March 19.

Representatives of the university and the CU Foundation received the gift from an anonymous donor earlier this month. The donor required that $5 million be used to benefit students. The remaining $500,000 may be used at the discretion of the campus leadership to meet strategic goals. (More)
Black and Gold Goes Green
 
bambooThe UCCS Alumni and Friends Association invites you to join us for Black and Gold Goes Green on April 9 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. for a celebration of sustainability and a recognition of the LEED Certified Recreation Center. The event will be held at the Campus Recreation Center, where guests will enjoy free food, a brief program, optional tours of the facility and a chance to play basketball, volleyball or swim. All alumni attendees will receive a free one-week workout pass to the Recreation Center. Free parking will be available in Lots 8 and 9 during the event (see campus map for details). RSVP to (719) 255-3637 by April 6 to reserve your space.
 
Don't forget: all alumni are eligible to receive a discounted membership to the Campus Recreation Center, so take advantage of this great opportunity to learn more.
Prius on Patrol
 
PriusUCCS police officers will be the first in Colorado to drive patrol cars guaranteed to deliver in excess of 40 miles to the gallon. Jim Spice, chief of police, Public Safety Department, recently ordered two Toyota Prius hybrid patrol cars to replace two SUVs used by the campus for nearly a decade. The cars went into service Feb. 25 after having radios, sirens and light bars installed. (More)
Mountain Lion Research Day to Highlight University Research
 
Tom PyszczynskiTom Pyszcsynski, distinguished professor, Psychology, will discuss the theories and research developed over the past 25 years and ideas about how they could be used to reduce support for violence in conflict-ridden regions as keynote speaker for Mountain Lion Research Day April 3 at UCCS. Presidential Teaching
 
Lab Student 1Three University of Colorado faculty members, one from Denver and two from Colorado Springs, are President's Teaching Scholars for 2009. This year's honorees are Lonnie Johnson, chair, Periodontics, CU Denver School of Dental Medicine, Andrea O'Reilly Herrera, professor, Women's and Ethnic Studies, and Paul Harvey, professor, History. CU Foundation's New Web Presence
 
Barbara SwabyThe University of Colorado Foundation recently launched a new web site, www.cufund.org with a renewed focus on the human impact of private support for the University of Colorado. The site showcases new multimedia features and enhancements that including new videos featuring Barbara Swaby, professor, Education, students Roberto Padilla and Terry Garrett, and the Bachelor of Innovation program.
Invitation to Participate in Psychology Department Study
 
Convocation 3The UCCS Psychology Department would like to invite UCCS alumni to participate in a study that investigates how the values and beliefs of Hispanic and Latino elders relate to their sense of well being. This study asks alumni to recruit their friends, family members and/or neighbors who are Hispanic or Latino elders aged 65 years old or older to participate in filling out a questionnaire that takes about 45 minutes to one hour to complete. The first 50 alumni members that return completed packets will be compensated for their time by receiving $15.00. To participate, please contact Angela Murphy at (719) 321-3811.
