a_article Braces Make You Beautiful!

Q.  What are braces?
A.  Braces are devices which gently correct irregularities in the arrangement of the teeth. They are also called orthodontic appliances. Braces can do wonders for your self-confidence and self esteem.

Q.  How many types of braces are there?
Alpha Tooth
A.  Basically there are two types, namely, fixed and removable braces. The most common type of fixed braces is made of stainless steel. There are also tooth-colored (ceramic) braces. Removable braces are appliances which are taken out of the mouth when you brush your teeth. They are cheaper but may not be suitable for all cases. Other new techniques are invisible and lingual braces. Invisible braces come in a series of customized transparent trays designed to correct your teeth alignment. Lingual braces have braces are attached to the back of the teeth so they are hidden from view.

Q.  What is the right age to start orthodontic treatment?
A.  For girls, braces treatment can start at ages 10-12, boys at 12-14 years. Alpha Dental recommends that all children should be examined at age 7. Reasons for a screening at this age include dental and facial problems arising from cross-bites and under-bites. Start treatment early to prevent complications from developing later.

Q.  I am an adult, will braces still work for me?
A.  Yes, it certainly will. You are never too old for braces! In fact one in every 5 Orthodontic clients are adults. However, because the bone structure is denser in adults, treatment time may take longer.

Q.  How long will the treatment take?
A.  The length of time will depend on a number of factors, such as complexity of the case. It is important that you follow your doctor's instructions faithfully and conscientiously.

Q.  Will there be a lot of discomfort when I am wearing braces?
A.  Initially there may be some discomfort. However, your lips, cheeks and tongue soon get used to them and you might even miss them when they are finally removed!

Q.  Will I be able to brush my teeth when I am wearing braces?
A.  Yes, of course! It is very important that you brush thoroughly so that you do not develop gum problems and cavities in your teeth.

Q.  How much do braces cost?
A.  The cost of braces will depend on variety of factors one of which is the difficulty of your case. Also, the type of braces you will be wearing can influence the cost treatment.

Q.  How do I care for my braces?
A.  You need to pay special attention to teeth cleaning everyday and to your diet. Permanent damage to tooth enamel can occur if the teeth and brackets are not kept clean.

Q.  How to keep your teeth, gums, and braces in shape?
A.     Here are 6 steps for keeping your teeth, gums and braces in shape:
  1. Using fluoride toothpaste and a small soft toothbrush, place your brush at an 45 degrees against the gums. Gently brush along the gumline where the gums and the teeth meet, using circular motion on each tooth.
  2. Spend about 10 seconds on each tooth, brushing in a set pattern so that you do not miss any teeth.
  3. Gently brush the braces. Brush in and around all of the brackets and wires.
  4. Brush both the inside and the outside surfaces of your teeth using circular motion on each tooth.
  5. For the chewing surfaces, use firm back and forth motion.
  6. Spit out excess paste then closely inspect teeth and braces in a mirror to check that they are clean.
Q.  Where can I get more information on braces?
A.  Ask your dentist or orthodontist.
