What is the Jewish celebration of Passover?

Jews around the world will celebrate Passover on Saturday, April 19th.  Passover, or Pesach in Hebrew, is one of the three major pilgrimage festivals of ancient Israel. Originally a combination of a couple of different spring festivals, it is a commemoration of the Exodus from Egypt - especially the night when God "passed over" the houses of the Israelites during the tenth plague--and of the following day, when the Israelites had to leave Egypt hurriedly. Centered on the family or communal celebration of the Seder (ritual meal), Passover is one of the most beloved of all Jewish holidays. Click here for more information.

4/19 - Participate in Traditional Passover "Seder"
Seder Plate"The Cleveland Hillel Foundation will be hosting a Seder on the first night of Passover, Saturday, April 19th beginning at 8:30 PM with dinner immediately following.  The Seder is free for all students.  Reservations are greatly appreciated.  Please RSVP to Ricky Marcus at 216-231-0040 or rmarcus@clevelandhillel.org.

Save the Date - Sunday, April 20th there will be a dinner to support vocations to the priesthood and religious life.  If you want to learn how to support someone who is considering a vocation, or who is attending seminary, or if you are considering a vocation yourself, please plan on attending this dinner at 7:00 pm in the LSC Conference Room.

Release of World View Magazine!
World View MagazineWorld View, JCU's first student-run human rights magazine was released April 1 and will be distributed throughout the semester at various events and campus locations.  World View's purpose is to "provide students of various organizations, academic backgrounds and service-based mentalities a platform to promote awareness of human rights issues." It seeks not solely to change, but to challenge the way we see the world. It aims to portray service to others as more than a temporary activity or occasional side project, but rather as a universal struggle for human dignity in the form of a shared worldvie - a paradigm for life that opposes injustice in all forms and locations.  View a PDF version of the magazine by clicking here.

Students can submit their own papers, photography, literature, personal reflections, etc to be published in the Fall 2008 issue until the end of April. Questions or submissions should be directed to JCUWorldView@Gmail.com.
