The Catholic Church has established a process, known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), for all those wishing to explore whether they are called to receive the sacraments in the Roman Catholic faith tradition. If you would like to know more about the Catholic faith, or if you are wondering about whether you would like to receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation or First Eucharist, then RCIA is for you! We will begin our sessions of inquiry on Sunday, September 30th at 8:00 PM. Call or e-mail Gail Roussey at Ext. 4766 or groussey@jcu.edu with questions.

Students travel to Georgia to remember Jesuits murdered in El Salvador and call attention to U.S. policy in Latin America

In 1989, six Jesuits, their housekeeper and her daughter were all dragged from their house and murdered by graduates of the U.S. Army School of the Americas (SOA). The SOA, a training school for soldiers from Latin America, is located at Ft. Benning, GA, and is funded by U.S. tax dollars.

JCU students have been taking part in a vigil and protest at the gates of Ft. Benning to call awareness to the murder of the Jesuits, and many other human rights abuses associated with the SOA (now known as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation). The movement to close the SOA is organized by SOA Watch.

This year a JCU group will again travel to Georgia to take part in the vigil/protest and participate in the Ignatian Family Teach-In (IFT) held the two days before. The IFT is a gathering focused on educating students from Jesuit universities across the country about issues of social justice, including U.S. policy toward Latin America.
