MANRESA RETREAT - Registration begins THIS Wednesday, Sept 26th at 2PM in Campus Ministry

Manresa!Manresa (M-12) Retreat will be held November 9-11.  This retreat is open to ALL students and offers a great opportunity to reflect on some of life's big questions: Who are you?  What are your gifts and talents?  How will you make a difference in the world? How is your faith connected to these questions?

The retreat is led by a group of students and includes large and small group presentations, individual and communal prayer services, and time to relax in the beautiful environment at Villa Maria, PA.  The retreat is rooted in Ignatian (Jesuit) spirituality, but you do not need to be Catholic to attend the retreat.  No prior retreat experience necessary.

Registration is first-come, first-served and it will fill up quickly.  To register bring your completed application and a $30 deposit to the Campus Ministry beginning at (but NOT before) 2 PM on Wednesday, September 26th.  Students may bring their own registration form and up to 2 additional registrations (to accommodate those who are off-campus or available at that time).

Click here to download the registration form in PDF format.

Students travel to Georgia to remember Jesuits murdered in El Salvador and call attention to U.S. policy in Latin America
JCU students at the vigil on the anniversary of the Jesuit martyrs deathsIn 1989, six Jesuits, their housekeeper and her daughter were all dragged from their house and murdered by graduates of the U.S. Army School of the Americas (SOA).  The SOA, a training school for soldiers from Latin America, is located at Ft. Benning, GA, and is funded by U.S. tax dollars.

JCU students have been taking part in a vigil and protest at the gates of Ft. Benning to call awareness to the murder of the Jesuits, and many other human rights abuses associated with the SOA (now known as the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation).  The movement to close the SOA is organized by SOA Watch.

This year a JCU group will again travel to Georgia to take part in the vigil/protest and participate in the Ignatian Family Teach-In (IFT) held the two days before.  The IFT is a gathering focused on educating students from Jesuit universities across the country about issues of social justice, including U.S. policy toward Latin America.  Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador killed in 1989The trip is co-sponsored by JUSTICE and Campus Ministry.

For more information about the trip click here, to find out how to  join the group, contact Kristine Lee (klee09@jcu.edu), Katie Russell (krussell08@jcu.edu) or Chris Kerr in Campus Ministry at ckerr@jcu.edu.
