The Catholic Church has established a process, known as the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA), for all those wishing to explore whether they are called to receive the sacraments in the Roman Catholic faith tradition. If you would like to know more about the Catholic faith, or if you are wondering about whether you would like to receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation or First Eucharist, then RCIA is for you! We will begin our sessions of inquiry on Sunday, September 30th at 8:00 PM. Call or e-mail Gail Roussey at Ext. 4766 or groussey@jcu.edu with questions.

| Holy Days In the Jewish and Muslim Faith Tradition |
During September 2007 Jewish people observe Rosh HaShanah which refers to the celebration of the Jewish New Year and begins a ten-day period of prayer, self-examination and repentance which culminates on the fast day of Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is considered the holiest day of the Jewish year, and is a day of prayer and fasting.
Also during September 2007 Muslims begin Ramadan which is the month on the Islamic lunar calendar during which Muslims fast and abstain from food, drink and other sensual pleasures from break of dawn to sunset. Fasting (along with the declaration of faith, daily prayers, charity, and pilgrimage to Mecca) is one of the "five pillars" of Islam. On October 12, 2007 the end of Ramadan will be marked by communal prayers called "Eid ul-Fitr," or Feast of the Fast-Breaking. |
