A Message from the Principal:
April Outreach Focus on Mentoring through Isaiah House The Campus Ministry of Serra Catholic School is spearheading a special and unique outreach during the month of April. This outreach involves mentoring some of the homeless families at the Catholic Worker Ministry at Isaiah House in Santa Ana. The actual focus of this outreach is NOT to collect donations for these people, but to foster a personal understanding of the plight of the homeless in our community.
The people living at Isaiah House have written wonderful, personal letters to the children of Serra Catholic School. In these letters they share the story of their lives, the reality of their circumstances, and even offer advice so that the children can avoid their mistakes. The Seventh and Eighth Grade students of Campus Ministry have shared these appropriately grade-leveled letters with the students. Students were then asked to reflect on the stories in these letters and to write letters of encouragement to the people in response.
The various classrooms have also created spiritual bouquets symbolizing our prayerful support of the families at Isaiah House (the identity of all Serra students will be protected during this process). A photo gallery of the men, women, and children who reside at Isaiah House is currently on display throughout the school. If parents are interested in providing tangible support to these families, simple things like bus passes, socks, books, and gift cards to Target, Borders, or Payless Shoe Store can be sent along with the letters. Please coordinate this with your child's homeroom teacher. Campus Ministry would like to thank the Serra Community for the constant and generous support of the Outreach Programs sponsored by Serra Catholic School. Mrs. Matsukane · Mrs. Tilton · Mrs. Valdez
