A Message from the Principal:

Welcome to 2010. May God's Blessings be abundant. We here at Serra are so grateful that each of you are a part of our Catholic community.

Parking and Traffic Update
Thanks to YOUR cooperation and following our established traffic guidelines and procedures, the City of Rancho Santa Margarita has determined that the past parking intrusion in the adjacent neighborhood no longer appears to be occurring, and therefore, will NOT be extending the parking permit program hours to 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as requested by neighboring residents. The current parking permit hours of 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. will remain in effect.
In November, you may have also noticed that exiting from campus onto Antonio Parkway became smoother and quicker. I am pleased to report that a "Call Detector" has been installed in our driveway to trigger a red light at La Ventana during our peak traffic periods.
I can't thank you enough for working with us to demonstrate to the City and our neighbors that we can work together to keep the impact to the area to a minimum.

Keep Serra Moving
There is more that we can do to Keep Serra Moving!
·  Drive slowly - keep our children and staff safe!
·  Follow the directions of staff!
·  Carpool when possible
·  DO NOT use your cell phone while driving
·  Have your children ready to exit the car in the morning
·  Say your goodbyes in the car. Please DO NOT roll down your window to talk to your student as they enter campus. This is VERY dangerous as your attention is diverted as you are driving.
·  Parents: please DO NOT exit your car during morning drop-off. We need to keep the traffic moving at all times.
·  When turning left from Antonio Parkway onto Banderas, only use the lane marked SCHOOL. DO NOT utilize the lane marked for residents/Bristol Park and attempt to cut into the traffic lanes.

"Walker" Authorization Form
As was reviewed at Back-to-School Nights in September, students may not leave campus to meet their carpool/parent without having a written authorization on file with the school.
After discussions with the Diocese, they have approved our authorization form for families who wish to have their students leave campus unaccompanied after school under only two scenarios: if a student lives within reasonable walking distance of the school (home must be located within 1.5 miles of the school) or if a student is walking to the bus stop adjacent to the school on Antonio Parkway. There are no other circumstances under which a student may leave campus unsupervised at dismissal.
The Permission Slips for parents to complete are available in the School Office and must be returned to the school for approval before a student may leave campus unsupervised at dismissal.

Jump Rope for Heart

Serra Mourns Loss of Janice McGrory
This week, Serra lost an amazing parent in Janice McGrory. Many have known the family for a long time and have been praying very hard for Janice. She has struggled with her health tremendously over the past few years and this past year specifically.
Janice is the mother of two Serra alum (Megan, class of '05 and John, class of '08) and two Serra students (Cameron and Shannon).
Services for Janice will be held on Saturday, January 9th at 1:00 p.m. at San Francisco Solano Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Serra Catholic School, Santa Margarita Catholic High School, or San Francisco Solano Catholic Church.
Please keep the McGrory family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
