A Message from the Principal:
Campus Ministry Supports Life!
October is Respect Life month for the American Catholic Community.  In order to promote and honor the dignity of all human life, the Campus Ministry Team at Serra (comprised of Seventh and Eighth Grade students) will be directing a schoolwide service project in an effort to support Toby's House, an outreach program for unwed mothers. This effort is in line with Catholic social teaching and Jesus' call to serve others.
Please join us in this service project by participating in a Baby Shower for Jesus. Campus Ministry will be collecting donations of unwrapped gifts and of gift cards to Target, Walmart, and Babies R Us. You may send your donations for the babies and mothers of Toby's House to school during the week of October 19th through October 23rd. In today's Weekly Envelope, please see the hand drawn invitation by our Campus Ministry students.
A specific gift wish list has been provided for us by Toby's House (no stuffed animals please); CLICK HERE to see the list of needed items. Thank you for your support!

An Overview of the School Calendar

The School Calendar QuickLink
Beginning November 1st, we will no longer be producing a monthly calendar as many of our families are accustomed to. Rather, all calendar activities and events will be posted to the web calendar.
By clicking on the School Calendar QuickLink, you will be taken to a summary of all events posted to the school calendar. By default, the current month will be summarized by each date an event is listed, however, you can scroll through the calendar to view additional events.
From this summary page, you can print and view the calendar in a variety of formats. If you are a "techie", you may also download the school calendar via an RSS and iCalendar feed.

Upcoming EventsUpcoming Events
Events which will impact the entire Serra community will be posted to the Upcoming Events section on the home page. General information such as time, date and location will be posted on the calendar. If additional information is available, by clicking on the event name, you can view the additional details.

Show Calendar »
If you click on the Show Calendar » at the bottom of the Upcoming Events, a monthly calendar view of all school events will appear. By default, the current month will appear, however, you can scroll through the calendar for additional months.
If you click on the "printer friendly" box in the top right hand corner, a printable version of the calendar will appear.

Show All »
If you click on the Show All » at the bottom of the Upcoming Events, a summary of all the calendar events listed on the home page will appear.

Every effort will be made to keep the calendars up-to-date, however, in our efforts to allow as much advance notice, some dates and/or times may change. We encourage you to check the calendar frequently.
Family Directory - Conditions of Use
Last week, the Family Directory was posted online for our families in our password-protected area of the website. Unfortunately, we have received a number or reports from families that they were added to mass distribution e-mail lists following the posting of the Directory online.
As a reminder, each family who downloads the Directory agrees to the Conditions of Use which states: By downloading the 2009-2010 Serra Catholic School Family Directory for viewing either electronically or by output, as a Serra parent, you agree to utilize the information for your own personal use; information contained in the directory may not be used for commercial use or mass distribution.
If you believe that you have been added to a new e-mail list for commercial use or mass distribution (does not include room parent or school e-mails), please forward the e-mail to ktonokawa@serraschool.org.
Harvest Festival 09Harvest Festival 2009:
Bountiful Blessings

From the PTO

Harvest Festival 2009 was truly a day for our families to behold our Bountiful Blessings on our new Serra campus. The day was gorgeous for our families and friends to wander by our Serra Family Farm. Our  new and improved "Serra Sports Zone" was a hit with young and old alike...many of us took a guess at  "Mr. Mac" , our giant pumpkin's weight, enjoyed some great food and played some fun games! The blessings of our own Serra students was amazing to see as we watched them in the Talent Show and listened to the Serra Singers and Middle School Choir.
The PTO would like to sincerely thank Mrs. Holly Schwartz and Mrs. Terri Savage, our Event Chairs for all of their hard work and dedication over the many months planning this special day for all of us.  A big thank you to each of the committee chairs for their special blessings which they chose to share with us for our Harvest Festival 2009.
Special thanks to Miss Austin, Miss Humbert and our Student Council for arranging the Pep Rally before the event and the Talent Show at Harvest Festival. Thank you as well to Mrs. Sifers, Mr. Schleicher and the Middle School Choir and Serra Singers for their beautiful music.
Thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who worked the Festival. Your service made this memorable event possible.  Thank you to Hanna's Restaurant and all the Serra families who frequented there, from the 1st to the 10th, as their donation was a generous contribution to our event.  Finally, heartfelt thanks to the many donors and underwriters without which our event would not be nearly as successful!!!
