RSVP for 4th Interfaith Seder & Passover in the Kabbalah

March 26, 2012

Greetings!

April is around the corner.  Christians are getting ready for Holy Week and Easter.  Jews are getting ready for Passover. This is a great time to invite a friend from another religion to your seder or Easter celebration at home, plus...

You are all invited this Sunday evening to our 4th Interfaith Seder - for people of all faiths or no faith at all - with Rabbi David Ingber and Romemu musicians at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church.

The Interfaith Seder is FREE, but you must RSVP by Wednesday! Donations, sponsors, and charoset are welcome. We also need a few more volunteers to come early and help set-up, email Bowie to help.

On April 11, come down to Charlotte's Place for our second Living Room of 2012 with Rabbi Or Rose, one of our great friends (he came to the Wild Goose Festival with us last year!).  He will be leading "Liberation in a Mystical Key: Passover in the Kabbalah."

Our Living Room this month on Shamanism was wonderful and well attended!  Jaime Kraft has shared a reflection on the event, Chris Turner sent us a poem about it, and Miguel Colmenares took great iPhone photos.  Click to the right to find out more.

Join us as we explore various medieval and early modern Jewish mystical teachings on the festival of Passover.

*How do the kabbalists understand the relationship between spiritual and physical liberation?

*What do they believe is the relationship between the human being and the Divine in these processes?

*How are classical figures like Moses and Pharaoh treated by the mystics?

This session is intended as both an introduction to Jewish mystical thought and as an opportunity for reflection on the values of freedom, personal and communal responsibility, and religious pluralism.

Reflection on Introduction to Shamanism
Shamanic Introduction
by Jaime Kraft

The rhythm of the drum filled the air, creating a kind of stillness and focus in the room that just-moments-ago was laden with uncertainty and anticipation.  The vibrations reverberated through my body, becoming almost hypnotic.

I closed my eyes and was immediately carried away.  I found myself almost instantly in a state of deep meditation that when done in silence, would usually take me a good fifteen minutes to uncover.

POEM
On a Shamanic Journey
Shamanic Drumming
by Chris Turner

"He can hear you," the Spirit croaked.

"Salaam," I said. "Peace to you and this place."

"And to you," said the

Spirit.

My eyes opened. I was back in the Financial District.
