Uprising, the People's Prayer
February 16, 2011
Greetings!

People pray in actions and words. As a community encompassing a multitude of faiths, we see this happening all around us. From our prayer groups to living rooms, from the world's uprisings and ongoings, prayer is happening all the time.

Next Wednesday, February 23, we will explore a prayer manifested by hands and feet far from our city, but close in our thoughts. Our dear friend Frankie Fredericks of World Faith and Religious Freedom USA will be leading a Living Room about the recent uprising in Egypt. Join us as we hear the varied perspectives of guests with first-hand ties to Egypt facilitated by Frankie, who has extensive experience in the country as well. Read more about Frankie's work in Egypt, as well as additional event details, below.

Come experience prayer in our Women's Spirituality Circle now rescheduled for Saturday February 26. All faiths and those of no faith at all are welcome. Simply RSVP to Jill Minkoff at the email below.

Keep praying the best way you know how!

You've seen the news. At this moment in history, it's all about Egypt. So come learn and converse with our panelists (tba) who will share their own experiences, insights and stories from their family and friends in Egypt. The evening will be wrapped in Egyptian sweets, sounds, and prayers of hope. Our facilitator will be Frankie Fredericks who, inspired by his independent research on Christian-Muslim relations in Egypt, built a global interfaith movement called World Faith. He ultimately returned to start a World Faith chapter in Egypt.

A born-again Christian from Oregon, Frank Fredericks is the co-director of Religious Freedom USA and Executive Director of World Faith, an interfaith community service network with chapters in six countries.  An alumnus of New York University, he previously worked in the music industry, managing artists such as Lady Gaga, and founding Çöñàr Records. Fredericks works as an Online Marketing Consultant and has consulted businesses, artists, and non-profits, including the Cordoba Initiative.  As an active blogger, Frank contributes to a number of blogs, including the Huffington Post.  He is an Interfaith Youth Core Fellows alumnus, UN Alliance of Civilizations presenter, and has been interviewed by Good Morning America, NPR, New York Magazine, and various international media outlets.

Why do women have a natural affinity to congregate? What is it that draws us together? We know it is happening... in our communities of faith, over our stoves and microwaves, in our emails and blogs! We know it is happening...at board meetings and neighborhood demonstrations, over skype and chai lattes!

We, Jill Minkoff and Ashley Curl, ask you to consider what it would be like to intentionally gather as women of multiple paths converging to share and grow spiritual, inspirational, and devotional space together.

As you consider, we warmly welcome you to join us in exploring the depths of common meal, ritual, experiential learning, and community, as we seek and nurture together an emerging collective of women of "many faiths and none" in New York City within the embrace of Faith House Manhattan.

To begin this journey, we will meet from 3-6 PM on Saturdays February 5th, April 2nd, and June 4th. Space will be limited, as we will be meeting in homes. Please RSVP your ability to attend and interest to Jill@faithhousemanhattan.org.
