Greetings!
Tomorrow, Peter Rollins, one of the most provocative and thoughtful Christian theologians of our day, will be hosting our June 9 Living Room, called "Seeing Ourselves Through the Eyes of the Other." This is a central issue for Rollins, who grew up in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, when religious division caused violent political conflict.
The evening will include a talk by Rollins, music by Isaac Everett, interactive activities and a liturgy of healing. The "Evangelism Project" started by his Ikon community in Belfast self-identifies as "reverse evangelism", learning how to receive from the other, and is similar to Faith House's Field Trips, visiting religious spaces of different religions.
On June 23, Carole Forman will end our 2nd year with a Living Room on "The Heart of the Heart: Spiritual Storytelling."
In the last two weeks, we have raised 24% of our $18,000 spring fundraising goal. We need to raise this full amount to make our fall programming possible. If you have not given yet, now is the time!

For myriad reasons to give, read "We Can Do It Together!" , a newsletter summarizing "Our First 19 Months" of Faith House, and 15 Endorsements from the Faith House Community.
Finally, Faith House is seeking a new Community Development Administrator. Please
share the Job Posting on our website with your communities or apply
yourself by THIS Thursday, June 10.

LIVING ROOM Seeing Ourselves Through the Eyes of the Other with Peter Rollins
June 9, 2010
6 pm Doors, 7 pm Program
Intersections, 274 5th Ave Btwn 29th
and 30th Sts
With Peter Rollins
Music Isaac Everett
It is natural for us to look at other people's beliefs and practices
in light of our own and judge them accordingly. By doing this we stand
over and above the other. But is it possible for us to create a space in
which we turn this approach on its head. Placing ourselves beneath the
beliefs and practices of another so as to come to a better understanding
of ourselves? Join us as Peter explores the theory and practice of this
idea through a sustained reflection upon a group he formed called the Evangelism Project (in which people go to listen to a
variety of faith communities in order to be evangelised).
Peter Rollins has
been praised as one of the most provocative and thoughtful theologians
of our day. An author, lecturer and storyteller, he is renowned for his
dynamic and winsome speaking. Rollins is also the founder of Ikon, a
faith group that has gained an international reputation for blending
live music, visual imagery, soundscapes, theater, ritual and reflection
to create what they call 'transformance art.' Rollins received his PhD
in Post-Structural thought from Queen's College, Belfast. He is
currently a research associate with the Irish School of Ecumenics at
Trinity College in Dublin and is the author of the groundbreaking
book How (Not) to Speak of God. His most recent work is entitled The Orthodox Heretic and Other Impossible Tales.
Isaac Everett is a musician, songwriter, and liturgist. He is the
author of The Emergent Psalter, a commentary and setting of the
psalms for intimate worship, and has released two albums, available on
Proost, iTunes, and Rhapsody. He is one of the founders of Transmission,
a Christian community in New York and is a graduate of Union
Theological Seminary.

LIVING ROOM The Heart of the Heart: Spiritual
Storytelling with
Carole Forman
June 23, 2010
6 pm Doors, 7 pm Program
Intersections, 274 5th Ave Btwn 29th
and 30th Sts
With Carole Forman
What is at the heart of a spiritual story? What makes it move us, and what in us is moved? Why do we love stories and why do we learn best through stories? How does a spiritual story answer questions of the heart - even those unexpressed. On this evening, Master Spiritual Storyteller Carole Forman will tell stories from many religions and spiritual traditions and then we will together explore what delights us, what ignites us, and why. We too will tell stories and then try on the telling of stories not our own. Come to ponder, participate, and play. Bring your heart, your voice, and your storytelling spirit.
Carole Forman is a Baal Misaper Ruchani, which in Hebrew means a Master Spiritual Storyteller, a title she earned in the two-year Jewish Spirit Maggid Training Program. She was and continues to be an actor (on Broadway once) and singer. Carole has moved communities at synagogues, churches, retreat centers, and theaters around the USA and Canada with both Jewish and diversity programs. She has been called "an absolute master at her craft" (Jacqueline Rose, Public Library, Lake Oswego, OR) who brings to her listeners "the delight of vivid theater" (Hassan Suhrawardi Gebel, Secretariat of the Sufi Order). She created a full-length piece entitled "Between Heaven and Earth" using stories and songs from different spiritual paths which was first presented this March at Orchard House Cafe. Recently, she played the part of Miriam in a performance of "In the Voices of Our Mothers" performed in a synagogue on Shabbat and a church on Sunday in Woodstock, New York.
Carole is a long-time teacher of yoga and creative movement. She is a Guidess at Life Works, Inc. and coaches storytelling privately and through the Maggid Training Program.
