Announcements! August & Autumn Changes

In August, Faith House will take a sabbath.  There will be no Living Room gatherings in August but see below for an invitation to watch the recent documentary Encounter Point on Aug 12.

Living Rooms are moving to a new night.  We will start meeting on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month in September.  Gather at Intersections, 274 Fifth Ave (btw. 29th and 30th Street).  Come at six to socialize snack, and help set up, programs will run from 7-8:30 pm.  Mark your calendars for Sept 9 and 23.  Questions or comments? Email info@faithhousemanhattan.org

We will continue Field Trips: Once a month we step out of our comfort zones and enter new sacred spaces in New York City. In the safety of community, on specific thematic "field trips," we visit diverse religious services as well as lectures, rituals, concerts and other events.

And to Serve Together: In synergy with other inter-faith organizations and our affiliated communities, Faith House provides opportunities to gain awareness and work together to fight poverty, increase environmental justice & sustainability, and promote peace in NYC and globally.

All programs FREE.  Donations welcome.

UPCOMING LIVING ROOM GATHERINGS
@ Intersections, 274 Fifth Ave, between 29th and 30th

July 25, Sat 5 pm

Seeding the Heart & Harvesting Intentions

seedsEvery day we hear about or participate in the eco or green movement sweeping across America and the world. Come to our last Living Room of the summer where we will investigate "green" wisdom. Many spiritual paths teach us that the earth is sacred as the source of life. In this gathering we will read stories of seeding and harvest from the Muslim and Jewish traditions. Participate in a seed meditation and share your own stories. Then we will practice what we preach by planting seeds and blessing the earth with some "guerrilla gardening" in our neighborhoods! Relax. Learn. Grow a new green intention!

FIELD TRIP!

July 17, Friday 7 pm

Romemu Shabbat Services & Friday Night Veggie Potluck

romemuWest End Presbyterian Church
165 West 105th Street at Amsterdam Avenue

We are all invited to join Rabbi David and Romemu (roh·meh·moo) for their shabbat services.  "Committed to powerful prayer and transformative spiritual practices, Romemu attempts to engage the heart, mind and body in everything we do, helping us to foster greater levels of compassion."  Those of us who have gone in the past have been deeply moved and inspired by the Romemu services.

Then stay for dinner!  * Please bring a dish or drinks to serve 4 - 6 hearty portions. Cous cous, salads, and pastas are all great examples.

Potluck Kashrut: In order to ensure that everyone can contribute and eat at Romemu potlucks, we ask that all food adhere to either: (1) Vegetarian, with only vegetarian ingredients. (Fish with fins and scales is also ok as long as it is labeled or self-evident.) OR (2) Still vegetarian (plus fish, as above), and all ingredients are marked with a recognized kosher symbol (more than just "K"), cooked (if applicable) in a kosher kitchen that uses only hechshered products.

RSVP for this Field Trip on our Facebook Event or Meetup Calendar!

Family members of slain Palestinians and Israelis, both military and civilian, share their stories and how they've turned their grief into a force for change in the region." ~ Netflix.com
