OUR REGULAR PROGRAM:

LIVING ROOM gatherings are every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 5:00-6:30 pm in Intersections located at 274 Fifth Ave (btw. 29th and 30th Street).

At least once a month we SERVE TOGETHER in the area of fighting poverty, working for social or environmental justice, sustainability, and community service. We also have a FAITH HOUSE TOUR BUS program, as we step out of our comfort zones and into a hospitable space of others to visit, participate, and learn from their services, lectures, rituals, concerts, and other events.

(all programs are free of charge - donations are welcome)

Last week,
February 26, in our regular space at Intersections, we participated in an interactive and experiential Living Room gathering, designed to introduce the Christian season of Lent for non-Christians and Christians who do not observe Lent.  Members of the community came early to help set up the space, practiced singing the hymns beforehand, read the scripture readings and litany, participated in the stations, and shared afterward. The program lasted about an hour and 20 minutes, including prelude, followed by time for socializing around food and conversation. You can follow the program as an online Lenten mediation at home or adapt it for your local community by clicking HERE.

Homes for the Homeless: Local Religious Responses

Facilitator: Bowie Snodgrass

We see homeless people on the streets and subways and hear about foreclosures and tent cities on the news... Come experience ways people of faith are responding!  Marc Greenberg, Executive Director of the Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing, along with a colleague who was formerly homeless, will talk with us about their work and experiences. Our Faith House Habitat for Humanity team will share pictures and stories from their Brooklyn build on Sunday, March 8. We will also have time for conversation about our own questions and experiences with homelessness, plus poetry, prayers, and an interactive art project.

Rebirth of the Sun: Nowruz and the Spring Equinox

Facilitator: Rabia Gentile

The Vernal or Spring Equinox, marks the first day of Spring. It is the day when light and darkeness are in equal amount, and to ancient agricultural socieites heralded a time of renewal, hard work and abundance.

Nowruz, known popularly as "persian new year" is the commemoration of the equinox. This important festival was thought by ancient Persians to be the day when the universe started its motion. For two weeks leading up to Nowroz, people in Iran, the middle east and the Persian diaspora gather together for feasting and reading poetry, they clean their houses and buy each other tulips and hyacinths.

Join us for an evening of celebration; music, dance, food and poetry, welcoming in the new life of Spring in the spirit of this ancient festival of renewal.
