Mo Banner
Greetings!

I hope you all are enjoying the fall season! Here in Austin, TX we have been hit with some major rain, which we desperately needed, so no complaints. With the cooler weather our pups have needed their jackets a few times already! Camy doesn't like to have it on but Fenway trots proudly. LOL!

Speaking of animals.. do you remember the Grey Quarter horse, Zip, I mentioned in a past email? Well, he has been in training at a barn in Austin and I have been going to ride him and a few other horses that the trainer has been kind enough to allow me some fun with.
Recently one of the barn's clients asked me to ride her horse, GQ, in English as she has only been riding him Western and I have all the gear for English. Since he did well with me English style she invited me to show him too! We went to a AQHA show two weekends ago and placed 2nd in a Novice Amateur Hunt Seat Pleaure class.  As you can imagine I'm having a great time at the barn!
More importantly this month is Breast Cancer awareness month.. in case you don't know already, I am donating 15% of the sale from my Pink 'Stay Fit & Love Life!' shirts to the National Bresast Cancer Foundation site.
If you would like to help me make a difference, please purchase a shirt from the MALL.

Finally, as the 'candy holiday' approaches fast I am hoping you will keep a watchful eye on your sugar intake. Sugar is one of the most damaging toxins you can eat, so please indulge carefully!

Almost daily I get people asking me questions about loosing weight. You have either seen it too.. or you have been the one that will pinch your belly and ask how to loose the unwanted fat that has piled up around the midsection. LOL!
I know the person is looking for that magic pill or lotion that will help them loose the spare tire.. but my first returning question will always be about their protein intake!

Some people look confused and some look frustrated..  but I have to ask that question first (even though I know you aren't supposed to answer a question with a question.. )

The answers I get back are typical (9 out of 10 don't eat enough protein on a daily basis), "Well, today isn't a good day..I got up late..rushed to work without breakfast, had a meeting during lunch so couldn't eat and then had to grab whatever I could find fast before the gym!"  Sound too familiar?

I believe this is true for the majority of people. They really don't understand the importance of protein and how much their body really needs on a daily basis, not only to perform the normal stuff but also to aid in fat loss.

Keep in mind, our bodies need protein for normal functions such brain chemistry, enzymes, immune system, tissue structure and, of course, muscles! If our body needs protein for all of that- daily, you can imagine how important it is to eat enough! Not to mention we want our bodies to also drop unwanted Lbs!

In my personal experience (not speaking of contest prep), if I just concentrate daily on eating enough protein and not worrying about carbs/fats, I will stay in a good place physically - both lean body mass and stamina for my daily routines.
The other foods will be eaten as they need to, but watching my protein count each day helps me eat better and enough.

One of the ways I have been able to keep my protein intake high enough is to drink Protein Shakes. My first introduction to protein shakes was back in 1992 or 93.. I was learning about nutrition, training and started competing in Fitness too.

There was so much to learn and try .. but I remember having protein shakes and thinking.. it doesn't taste that great but if it is good for me, well then I'm drinking it!

In fact, my dad and I were just chatting about the big haul to CALI from TX that he and I did to move me to Los Angeles back April, 1995! We would be cruising along in the UHAUL and I would need to eat.. so I'd whip out my shaker cup and whey protein and have a shake. Trust me, it wasn't that great .. but I'd drink up knowing that I needed to continue taking protein in even if I was traveling!

Fast forward now 14 years... I have since then been under contract with 4 different supplement companies and worked in between the contracts with a few others. All of the companies have protein powders and I have used 100s of different ones along the way! It seems that each company I worked for had better and better protein powders- taste, texture and mix-ability.

At any rate, earlier this year (FEB 2009) I signed an endorsement deal with top supplement company, BNRG (BioNutritional Research Group). You all may know them from the YUMMIEST protein bars on the planet, Power Crunch Bars! I was introduced to the owner and founder, Kevin Lawrence, back in Los Angeles while I was doing one of my sprint workouts at the UCLA track in 2004. Kevin was kind enough to send me Power Crunch bars and Proto Whey (protein powder) in all flavors to test!
Needless to say I was hooked! BNRG also become sponsors for the F.E.M. Camps and sent product to each camp starting at the MDR, CA camp in 2005.
In early 2009, BNRG re launched their (already) fabulous protein power, Proto Whey. With new packaging and slightly new flavors, Proto Whey has been moving fast up the charts as one of the top ranking brands by BB.com!

Of course everyone wants to know, does it taste good? Well, I have yet to find one friend or fan that hasn't enjoyed it and thus given the rest of the brands a wave good bye!

After the initial taste test, my hubby, Scott (who is now the TX Sales Rep for BNRG) and I like to make sure the consumer realizes how different Proto Whey really is compared to all other brands.

For instance, the most important factor for protein is the absorbability of the protein. If your body can't absorb it rapidly, it will get lost in the colon and down the drain of the commode! Keep in mind the first 4-6 feet of the small intestine is where most of the digestive enzymes are released and where protein is digested most efficiently (as di and tri peptides vs free form aminos). If your body can't digest protein fast enough, it will move out of the small intestine into the colon where it cannot be digestedand causes bloating, gas and possiblymore dangerouslong term issues such as colon cancer. (There are clinical studies indicatingthat the chronic presence of undigested protein in the large intestine is the leading cause of colon cancer. Mother Nature never intended large amounts of undigested protein to be in the colon where it either feeds bacteria which produce gas and other undesirable effects orwaits to be passed from the system!)

The beauty of Proto Whey is that it has already been broken down (predigested if you will) into di and tripeptides so that the body can readily absorb 100% of it in the first few feet of the small intestine. This is done (for you and me!) during the highly technical process called, Hydrolysis.

Another beautiful thing about Proto Whey is that it also has specially enhanced psyllium fiber to help slow the movement into your intestines and to keep you feeling satisfied longer.

Just recently I received a great testimonial from a fan/friend that is preparing for her figure contest. Trust me, she has tried many flavors and brands, she is always looking for that perfect blend to help her get through her contest preps!

Hey Mo!

I have had plenty of time to play around with my new BNRG Proto Whey flavors;
and I have to admit, I love them all!  I keep all four out on my counter so I can scoop out whatever my craving of the moment is!
For instance, I save 'Mocha' for the morning and I enjoy mixing it with the 'Double Chocolate' (Scott told me about that one) and the 'Vanilla Crème' works great in place of creamer in my coffee and even better in a shot of espresso. Also, I use about 1/2 tablespoon of the 'Vanilla Crème' mixed in my oatmeal, making it super rich and creamy! I could probably eat that for every meal!

Mixing the 'Double Chocolate' and 'Vanilla Crème' with my flax seed reminds me of a cookies 'n' cream shake. (Hey, I'm not crazy, I'm just prepping for my figure show so I have to be creative and use my imagination a bit!).

Ending my day with 'Strawberry Crème' makes me really happy!  I look forward to it all day long!  I have never been a huge fan of strawberry flavored drinks; but Proto Whey is different.  It's really, really yummy and as of right now it
IS my FAVE!!! Honestly, it is so yummy I can eat the powder DRY straight out of the pretty blue container- with a spoon of course!

Also, I love how easily they mix in a shaker cup when I'm on the go, no goop on the bottom!  The added fiber helps keep me satisfied between meals and the intense flavors keep my sweet-tooth in check.
As you can see, I am definitely enjoying my new find with Proto Whey and I hope that BNRG will consider a 'Peanut Butter' and 'Banana' in the (near) future!

Thanks for turning me on to Proto Whey! I appreciate you looking out for my health and happiness!
Love always,
Kerri Smith

Hopefully I've given you enough information to make you excited about getting your protein count up and maybe you'll take the time to click over to BB.com's store where you can purchase some Proto Whey, Power Crunch Bars and even for some really fun treats, the Choklat Crunch Bars (Dark or Milk). By the way, both products are made with Proto Whey as well.

Keep in mind, should you (ladies) decide to participate in one of the California F.E.M. Camps next year you will have the opportunity to hear owner and product formulator, Kevin Lawrence, speak about supplementation and most importantly, Protein!

For more details on the camps please visit the official website:
www.FEMCamp.net and click on the Upcoming Camps in the box on left side of the home page. Or you can always email me directly about the camps too- monica@femcamp.net.

Now go get your Proto Whey and Enjoy!

Figure Olympia Update & Thank You's..
Figure O 09
Just wanted to take a minute to talk about the Olympia 09..

I ended up in 10th place.. worst placing ever but IMO probably the BEST I have ever looked on stage! I felt great the whole time too.. no stress or cramping from the water depletion.. serioulsy, felt great!
I definitely contribute part of my prep results to Proto Whey Protein by BNRG.. this is seriously the BEST protein I have ever used.. I used it 2x daily at least prior to Tuesday before the Olympia.. that's when I started my water depletion.
This is fantastic protein.. and not just because I work for the company now! :)

Also, I had a world of support from my dear hubby, great friends and fans.. it was a blessed weekend overall.. what more could a gal ask for?

This was my 11th time on the Olympia stage and 15th year in a row to work the expo-(Thanks BNRG!)

Not sure what is in store for 2010 with regards to stage-- but we'll see in the next couple months..  Scottie and I will visit the idea of the Figure International 2010 at the Arnold Classsic.. we both will be going to work for BNRG anyways.
