 Mo headshotGreetings!
Happy June endings! It has been a whirl wind month for me! I can't believe it is going to be over.. summer is getting strong here in Austin! We have already been having 100+ degrees weather! HOT! I love it!

My month started off in Palm Springs, CA for a fun time with the F.E.M. Camp ladies that attended! After a fantastic camp I headed to LA to visit my eye doc, Dr. Michael Granberry of the Lasik Spa.We formulated a new plan for my eyes when I should find time (LOL!) again to have him work some more magic on my vision-which has been getting worse since my Lasik procedure(s) with a different eye doc back in 2001/2002!
While in LA I was able to spend a couple special nights with my God-Children (& their parents!) in LA! They are growing so fast and I have to grab time with them when I can! After LA I was home for about 5 days where I was able to squeeze in another feature for Austin Fit Magazine.(see below for updates on that grueling workout!).
My next trip came up fast! Off to Vegas for the GNC Convention to help spread the news about Proto Whey! Since Scotie is now repping for BNRG, he was there too! This turned out to be a nice trip.. we ALWAYS make time to play while working in Vegas! SHOUT OUTS to our good friends, Alma Clark for our intriguing anniversary present at the WYNN! She sent us to see LA REVE LA REVE (late anniversary present) with Champaign, chocolates and strawberries! Thankfully I'm not dieting for a contest! LOL! Also, to our personal 'Mr. Vegas' -Corey Nigrelli for always making our trips super fun!

After Vegas I headed straight to meet my Dad for Father's Day! He was volunteering his time at the 37th Annual Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance and asked if I would join him for the weekend!
Have to admit, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would have shared some fun photos here if we hadn't taken all our photos together on his camera! He doesn't have the cord to transfer them to his computer and we live about 3 hours drive apart!
I am hoping to get them someday though! Ha! Ha! Great memories with Dad!

Now I have been home for one week.. working on new camp projects, new articles for some publications, website updates, orders off the MALL, book-keeping and filing receipts and wishing my BRAND NEW DELL computer didn't have a damaged Hard Drive!
I am so frustrated with this.. too expensive of a computer to have this issue .. it has been a challenge trying to save photos, etc before it goes completely out!
Apparently I am in the 1% group of computers that are sold with bad HDrives!
Hmmmm... I suppose it is teaching me patience..  I know I know. it is a virtue!
I'm dealing with it best I can.. using old computers meanwhile.

I'm sure I'll get it all straightened out sooner or later..

Have a great end of JUNE!

Cardio Myths
by Mark McDonald

Old School High Intensity Cardio Myths meet Current Science Based High Intensity Cardio Truths written by Mark Macdonald, Creator and CEO of Venice Nutrition
I played on my first club soccer team at the age of 9; I can remember my coach talking to us about Carbohydrate Loading. He shared how we should eat a big pizza Friday night to prepare for the game Saturday morning. Then during the game we should all continue the carbohydrate intake by drinking Gatorade, juice and eating orange slices at halftime. This philosophy was a reoccurring theme in all my sports: cross country, tennis, cycling, swimming, basketball and soccer. It was also supported during my collegiate soccer years by my coaches and professors.
The theory behind carbohydrate loading is that by taking in a high dosage of carbohydrates (sugar) the day before your sporting event you'll provide your muscle with a long lasting supply of Glucose (sugar) which will maximize energy. This philosophy also reinforces taking liquid Glucose supplements (goo) and/or high sugar electrolyte recovery drinks (Gatorade) during a sporting event.
After college my focus shifted from sports to bodybuilding. I quickly realized that the Carbohydrate Loading philosophies I'd learned were just philosophies .... As I dug deeper into how the body actually can create and burn energy it became evident that Carbohydrate Loading for High Intensity Cardio was a myth and in truth actually hinders performance.
The Purpose of this Article is to Shed Light on the 5 most well known High Intensity Cardio Myths and then present the Current Science/Physiology and Actual Truths of maximizing performance and recovery during High Intensity Cardio Events. The Information in this article is also reinforced by 1000's of testimonials of high performance athletes that our nutrition centers have worked with through the years, a few being:
The American Stroke Association - Marathon Club
Professional, Collegiate & High School Athletes from all sports: Football, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Track, Lacrose, Boxing, Wresting, Volleyball , etc.
1000's of Regional Triathlete, Cycling, Swimming & Running Clubs

Kick Mo's Butt
Austin Boxing Babes Feature

For the June feature I went to a class for Austin Boxing Babes and yes, I got my butt kicked!
It definitely was a hard workout, something I have never done was the Sparring! I felt really silly.. and didn't like hitting Julia! Not sure if I could ever really get into that completely!
It was a great workout and and I would consider taking the class without the sparring part again! LOL!

To see the feature, click on the image below and then on the FITNESS tab once on the AFit site!

You can also see the video preview and if you like purchase the complete DVD by emailing Scott York and asking him for the BOXINGBABES episode!

The following is just a little something to keep in mind as you deal with your days.. I try to recall these daily to help with my attitude!

Fruits of the Spirit:

Joy
Joy will allow us to enjoy my relationship with Christ, His creation,
others, and our circumstances with an expression of delight and real,
authentic happiness from and with harmony with God and others.

Love
1 Corinthians 13
1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I
am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of
prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a
faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I
give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b]
but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it
is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily
angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but
rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always
hopes, always perseveres.

8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where
there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it
will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when
perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I
talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.
When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a
poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I
know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of
these is love.

Self-Control
Self-Control is allowing God to be in control of your will and heart and
seeking the Spirit to enable us.

Gentleness
Gentleness is the character that will show calmness, personal care,
tenderness and the Love of Christ in meeting the needs of others.

Faithfulness
Faithfulness is the "gluing" fruit that will preserve our faith and the
other characters of the Spirit and identify God's will so we can be
dependable and trusting to God and others.

Goodness
Goodness is the engagement of love! It displays integrity, honesty and
compassion to others and allows us to do the right thing.

Kindness
Kindness is the medium through which Christ's love becomes tangible
through us. It is practicing benevolence and a loving attitude towards
others.

Patience
Patience is showing tolerance and fortitude toward others, even accepting
difficult situations from them, and God, without making demands or
conditions.

Peace
Peace is surrendering and yielding ourselves to the Lord to be in His
control, for He is our ultimate peace! Allowing tranquility to be our tone
and control our composure

Until next month...
