June 4, 2011 marked the 3rd Annual Barn Party at the Bronfman Family Recreation Center & Ranch, supporting our Equestrian Program. Well over 300 individuals attended the festivities. Attendees enjoyed some sunshine, riding demonstrations, gunny sack race, petting zoo, mechanical bull riding, delicious food and some amazing silent and live auction items. The NAC is looking for volunteers to help support the first annual Women Rock Triathlon! Thinking about trying one yourself someday? What better way to prepare for your first triathlon then working behind the scenes and seeing how it all works. You don't have to be a master triathlete or swimming to volunteer; we want everyone to join in on the fun! If you would like to be apart of this exciting event on Saturday, July 2nd, please email volunteer@discovernac.org.

Registration is now open for our 2011 Summit Challenge bike ride on August 27th, 2011! Ride 15, 50 or 100 miles in support of the NAC. Therapeutic riding, Hippotherapy, and Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) take place year round. All three programs offer highly effective therapy for individuals with a cognitive, behavioral, or physical disability, while therapeutic riding and Hippotherapy have been proven to be particularly effective with children. The summer has officially kicked off and we have good news! We are seeking more participants to fill some spots in our Cycling, Archery and Aquatics programs. This year the NAC program services directed towards wounded veterans and injured members of the armed services has grown more than 400%. To learn more about the positive impact the NAC is having on the lives of soldiers and their families take a listen to KPCW's community voices program featuring the NAC's partnership with the Community Based Warrior Transition Unit.
The National Ability Center was also proud to host Congressman Ben Ray Lujan of New Mexico last month. Congressman Lujan was on-site to witness first-hand the success of NAC's military partnerships with soldiers from New Mexico participating during in a variety of NAC's signature adaptive programs.
