  August 09, 2007

Greetings!

We're pleased to announce that Nyichang Khentrul Rinpoche will give a teaching on the history of the Longchen Nyingthig on Friday, August 17, at 7:00 pm.

About Nyichang Rinpoche
Nyichang Rinpoche was born in Tibet in 1932 in the Kyidong Valley, the same area in which Milarepa was born. He studied in the Nyingma lineage under Shuksep Jetsunma Rinpoche, a great female teacher, who recognized him as the reincarnation of Drukpa Sangye Dorje, a great poet and the main disciple of Padma Karpo, the 16th century head of the Drukpa Kagyu sect.

Rinpoche also studied at the Nyingma head temple of Mindroling and attended Nyima Changra Monastic College, an excellent small university. He became a teacher there at age 18. He left Tibet in 1959 and became the religious headmaster at the school for Tibetan refugees in Mussoorie. He also taught at the Sanskrit University in Varanasi. In 1974, at the request of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he went to teach at the tantric university of Koyasan in Japan.

Currently, Rinpoche has dharma students in Japan, Austria, Estonia, Russia, the Netherlands and Italy, and he is just beginning to be become known in the United States. His main work is establishing Pelri Thegchok Ling Institute near Kalimpong, to train young monks as scholars in the Rime tradition, with a special emphasis on Dzogchen.
