Lama Karma to Perform Sacred Dance at Nityananda Institute
January 2007

  Greetings!

Lama Karma Namgyel, a Nyingma/Kagyu lama from Bhutan, will be performing Tibetan sacred dances at Nityananda Institute on Sunday, January 28 at 6:00 pm. He visited the Institute last fall, and this will be the first time he has done a program for us.

About Lama Karma

Lama Karma was born in Bhutan of a Nyingma/Drukpa Kagyu family. He joined a Drukpa Kagyu monastery in Bhutan at age 7 and stayed until he was 21. His training in ritual practices included dance, instruments and chant, and he was the dance and chant master for the monastery. In 1987, he went to Nepal to study Dzogchen teachings with Khenpo Rigdzin Dorje. He came to the United States in 1996 and now lives in Boulder, Colorado, where he established the Drukpa Mila Center, a center for teaching in the Drukpa/Kagyu lineage, and owns a shop in Boulder called Sacred World that sells Bhutanese and other Asian textiles and handicrafts. He works to support two monasteries in Bhutan that came to him through his family.

About the Program

Lama Karma will perform two dances for us, a Guru Rinpoche dance and a 16 Offering Goddesses dance. The performance will be preceded by a short talk on the dances and followed by a brief question and answer session. The whole program will last about an hour and a half.

There is short video of Lama Karma dancing here.

There is no charge for this event, but we are asking everyone who can make a donation to do so in order that we can make an offering to Lama Karma. Lama Karma will join us for dinner in the dining room afterward. He is very excited to be able to have a program at the Institute.

Please share this message with any of your family and friends who might be interested.
