Walk Through Grief -Together
Community Walk for Grief Support
Walking Through Grief-Together :: Community Walk for Grief Support
. June 4, 9am-noon. Loyola Park, 1230 W. Greenleaf, Chicago. Join us to raise money for those in need of grief counseling and to promote understanding about cycles of grief and loss. The Center for Grief Recovery is celebrating its 25th anniversary by organizing this community event in East Rogers Park, along Chicago's beautiful lakefront. Walk 3 miles from Loyola Park to Berger Park and back. Registration: $20/adult, $10/child (12 & under), $55/family maximum. Groups are encouraged to walk in honor of a loved one, a colleague, a friend, a pet, or to support transformation after a significant loss, like a divorce, job transition, or illness. Those who raise additional sponsorships are entered into a raffle!
The inevitability of loss confronts us all at some time or another. And loss is not limited to the death of a loved one, though that is its most dramatic expression. We believe grief and mourning are natural healing processes, but are often compromised or derailed by various factors, such as the lack of clear and compassionate community rituals.
Sponsors and Donors Still Needed
Please consider making a donation to help underwrite the walk, to contribute to the Grief Recovery Fund or to give items for our end-of-walk raffle. Contact Carol at 773.612.9505 or email her at cljungman@comcast.net.
Donors over $250 will have their logo & link on our webpage, one free admission & t-shirt, and an opportunity to put a promotion item in the goodie bag. Sponsors over $500 will have their logo on our t-shirt, 2 free admissions & t-shirts, their logo & link on our website, and an opportunity to put a promotional item in the goodie bag.

City Launches Facade Rebate Program
The 2011 Facade Rebate program is funded through the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which funds projects in low- to moderate-income communities only. Over the past three years, this program has assisted 44 businesses with grants totaling $500,000.
The program, meant to facilitate façade improvements for neighborhood businesses through financial and technical aid, offers rebates in the form of matching grants of up to $20,000, to eligible commercial and industrial businesses and property owners who complete qualified facade rehabilitation projects. An eligible "facade" is the front face or elevation of the building which typically faces the street and contains windows and the principal entrance to the building.
The guide, application, map of CDBG-eligible areas and other application documents can be found on HED's website, www.cityofchicago.org/hed by clicking first on the Economic Development link under Service Providers and then on "Apply to the Façade Rebate Program" link under Services. The 2011 guide and application should post soon and in the meantime they are attached.
Program applications are due by 4 PM on Friday, June 3, 2011.
Applications and/or questions should be directed to Annie Coakley, Chicago Department of Housing and Economic Development, 121 N. LaSalle, Room 1006, Chicago, IL60602. Ms. Coakley can be reached by phone at (312) 744-8280. |

Chamber Members are Moving Ahead
Some business owners are "waiting for things to get better" before they invest in growing their business. But we have Chamber members who are making things get better rather than waiting. Asif Vadaria, CPA, for example, recently moved his business, TaxCutters, Inc., into a larger modern office at 2457 W. Peterson. Another example is Grace Printing which has opened a second location in Skokie offering design, printing and mailing services, and over 350,000 advertising specialties which can be ordered online.
These companies are positioning themselves for increasing growth as our economy rebounds. We need more stories like this from our members. As you take steps to grow your business, send me your information at dennis@ProfessorDennis.com and I will try to tell your story in future issues.
