News From Help Chicago Kids
Help Chicago Kids was established at the outset of 2010 by Russ Hopkins, a native Chicagoan and retired voluntary organization manager and marketing executive who has served in recent years as an advocate for troubled family and youth causes in the area.
While serving in various volunteer capacities with the National Runaway Switchboard and Standup For Kids Chicago, Russ became aware of the value that tutors and mentors may play in rescuing troubled youth before it is "too late" to transform themselves into responsible and productive citizens.
At the same time, while government and academic authorities are calling for stepped up mentoring and tutoring, Russ found that there are few well organized sustained efforts of this type operating in the City of Chicago where a dire need for such services exists.
For this reason, he has launched Help Chicago Kids at the beginning of this new decade for the sole purpose of encouraging and assisting community organizations with regard to carrying out such tutor-mentoring programs.
The primary activity of HCK during 2010 will be to search for volunteer tutor-mentors in Chicagoland and to then match them up with those Chicago organizations conducting such efforts who will in turn match the tutor-mentors with their youth counterparts.

NP is THE BEST jeweler on Devon.
I'll write a more detailed review soon, but just wanted to leave a quick note for now. A few months ago, I spent a weekend visiting every jeweler on Devon (my husband and I are new to Chicago), and really felt that NP was the best for several reasons. Will list reasons in more detailed review.
If you're looking to buy jewelry, I feel very comfortable suggesting NP. You should visit others, but be sure to read reviews for the ones you must avoid. Also, talk to Niki if she's there. A conversation with Niki alone justifies a trip to NP!!

Chamber Member The Tax Dude, Neil Johnson, Announces Merger
I am pleased to announce the merger of my practice with Dolins, Dolins & Sorinsky, Ltd. effective January 4, 2010. Dolins, Dolins & Sorinsky, Ltd. (DDS) is a full service accounting practice based Northbrook , Illinois . DDS is a well respected firm with a first rate tax practice and represents a wide array of clients located throughout the US and abroad.
Over the past few years, I have been seeking to expand my practice. In addition to growing the practice through networking and client referrals, my other focus had been seeking out accounting practices for acquisition. A merger to a larger firm was not on my radar.
In July, a third party introduced me to Stuart Sorinsky of DDS. At that time I wasn't considering a merger, but decided to explore the possibilities. After several months of discussion, all of the parties came to same conclusion. A merger of our practices was a win-win not only for our practices, but for our combined clients as well.
By merging with DDS, I now have far greater resources available to me. These resources include a better back office support, professional camaraderie and the ability to provide additional services for my clients. DDS gains one of the top tax professionals in the US who is one forefront of leveraging technology in the accounting industry. Combining the two practices and leveraging our expertise now positions us as a leader within our industry.
As the DDS office is located in Northbrook, I have made arrangements to keep the Evanston location for a period of time. Before the merger discussions with DDS, I signed a five year lease for the Evanston office. I do expect to spend the majority of my time at the Northbrook office, but I will be happy to meet with any clients who find the Evanston location more convenient.
While the merger is a significant change for me personally, my clients shouldn't notice any significant difference from how I've done things in the past. Even with the additional staff I will gain with this merger, I will continue be in charge of my clients' tax and accounting needs.
