UPDATES 

  • The 2013 exchanges to Reggio may include youth exchanges, including a possible sports exchange, as well as a Fort Worth Culinary School exchange this spring. 

   

 

  • The group is planning a 25th anniversary celebration during October featuring German music and cuisine. Stay tuned for details.
  • Thank you to the Trier group for hosting a welcome party for, Simon Kohl, last month.  Simon is a student at the Koblenz University and an alum of the Fort Worth Sister Cities program interning in the office this fall.

  • Thank you to the Harashin Scholar host families who supported the students and teachers from Nagaoka last month.
  • The committee hosted a 25th anniversary and Sayonara dinner for the Harashin students with a Fort Worth Youth Orchestra performance. Many thanks to Willa Dunleavy and the Youth Orchestra for the lovely program.
  • Sister Cities is welcoming 35 middle school students and their teachers for the Ambassador Middle School program. Thank you to the hosting Ambassador schools: Daggett Montessori, Fort Worth Academy and Trinity Valley School.
  • The group will also host a thank you and goodbye party for the students and host families this month. See calendar for details.
  • The 8 young professionals headed to Nagaoka for the business mentorship program are having their final meetings this month to prepare, plus a happy hour bon voyage party hosted by the members of the NET.
  • Ambassadors for the 25th anniversary exchange will also have their final orientation this month.  The exchange will be led by Director Emeritus Mary Palko. Member Owen Daniel will perform at the Japanese festival as Fort Worth's own singing cowboy.  And the young professionals joining the exchange for the festival, will march in full Samuri costume in the parade.

  • Planning continues for an inbound exchange program between Bandung High School No. 5 and Arlington Heights High School in October.
  • An official exchange to Bandung and Bali is being planned for June 2013.
  • Fort Worth Sister Cities was invited to take part in a U.S.-Indonesian Sister Cities alliance. A special best practices meeting is to be scheduled with Fort Worth and other U.S. cities who have Indonesian sister city relationships (Seattle, Los Angeles, and St. Louis).

  

  • Fort Worth received an invitation to participate in Budapest's World Heritage Day, to celebrate and highlight both Hungarian and Fort Worth culture.
  • The committee joined the Trier group to welcome Simon Kohl last month.

 

  • Toluca will be invited to the official dedication for the Vaquero Bronze on the North Side, Oct. 21st.
  • Thank you to Trinity Valley School, our Ambassador High School, who is hosting a 3 week exchange for 12 high school students from Tec de Monterrey in November.

   

  • Adults are invited to join the Mbabane Service Adventure to Johannesburg, South Africa and Mbabane, Swaziland next June 2013.  Details and exchange registration information is on the website.

  

  • Xiexie to the many host families for welcoming students and teachers from Guiyang during ILA.
  • An extended youth and educator exchange is being planned for next June.

Fort Worth Youth International

 

  • The FYI executive board is meeting this month to prepare their programs for the year.
  • Spring and summer exchange details and applications for 8th-12 graders is on the website now. Youth Ambassadors are encouraged to apply by the deadline - Oct.22nd.

 Emerging Leader Network (The Net)

  • The NET is hosting a bon voyage happy hour for the 8 young professionals traveling to Nagaoka next month for their business mentorship program. See calendar for details.
  • Next year's exchange applications and information for Associate Delegation Leaders is on our website now. Applications due by Oct. 22nd.
