UPDATES 

  • Tarrant County College culinary students returned from Reggio Emilia from their first culinary exchange.
  • Join the Programs & Exchanges group and help brainstorm ideas for 2012-13, June 27th at Mama Mia's. Check out the calendar for details.
  • No committee meeting is scheduled for June.
  • The committee is preparing to host 17 students and teacher coming in July for the International Leadership Academy. Grazie to all the host families for sharing their homes and our Texas hospitality.

   

  • The Trier and Budapest groups are meeting this month to hear about Nancy Lamb's recent experience visiting the Pilgrimage of the Holy Robe exhibit in Trier.  Join the group and hear first hand about this incredible experience. See calendar for details.
  • The Trier committee are planning a welcome for our international intern from Trier, Simon Kohl.  Simon is being home hosted by wonderful host families from the Trier committee from  July - October.

  • Deposits for the Nagaoka 25th anniversary exchange are due on June 25th.   While in Nagaoka participants can join the Samurai Parade and wear costumes provided by our friends in Nagaoka. Visit the website for more details.

  • Stay tuned for details on a special gathering to welcome university professors from Padjadjaran University in Bandung. They will visit Fort Worth this month.
  • We are happy to welcome Brent Clifford and his family back from Indoensia. They visited Bandung for 5 days during May.

  • The committee is busy this summer welcoming 3 interns for June & July, Matsu Shimizu and Benjamin Mirada, who will work in the Sister Cities office. Lorena Alarcon Herrera will intern with Artes de la Rosa for 2 months at their summer theater camp.
  • Toluca is participating in a trade mission scheduled for June 24-27. The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce and City of FW Economic Development Dept. are collaborating with Sister Cities on this project. Stay tuned for details.  
  • You are welcome to join the Programs & Exchanges group to brainstorm ideas for 2012-13 this month. Check calendar for details.

   

  • Committee Chair Dr. Staussa Ervin, will lead the Service Adventure delegation to Mbabane June 6-20. Thanks to FWISD Art Director Beverly Fletcher and FWISD art teachers for working on a mural design to be featured in the Mbabane Central library.
  • Mbabane has recruited 5 high schools students, 1 alum and 1 teacher to participate in ILA this summer. Thank you to the members of the Black Ecumenical Leaders Alliance who will sponsor five scholarships for the students' participation.

  • Delegates of the May exchange to Guiyang will share some of their impressions of Guiyang at the General Membership Meeting, "A Conversation on China", June 5th.   Click HERE for more information.
  • Wishing a memorable experience to our 14 students going on the inaugural exchange to Guiyang and Beijing June 6-19th. Click here to see press release.
  • Guiyang is sending 11 students and 2 teachers to attend ILA . Xiexie to all host families preparing to share their Texas homes with our international visitors. 

Fort Worth Youth International

  • Congratulations to our graduating officers and FYI members; Shelby & Francesca Roberts, Jaz Tinsley, Claudia Carranza, Allison Meade, Daniela Silva, Ilsa Gehman, Hae Lin Lee, Roberto Duran.

 Emerging Leader Network (The Net)

  • Thank you to Dr. Tom Fairchild at UNT Health Science Center for facilitating the visioning session with our Emerging Leaders Network group in May.  Input from this group will be utilized in Sister Cities Long Range plan to be finalized later this year.
  • Interviews will be conducted this month for applicants of the Young Professionals Japanese Mentorship Program.  A panel of judges will conduct the interviews and selected participants will be announced before the end of the month. Watch the Fort Worth Sister Cities website for updates.
  • Fort Worth Sister Cities is excited to have 13 interns working in our office this summer on international programs. NET members are encouraged to come by the office and welcome them to Fort Worth.
  • Final plans are being made for an international alum and NET celebration for July 25 so save that date.
