Loving Terry
Terry McCoy was a vibrant wife and mother of four children with a passion for gardening. Following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Terry eventually became a homecare patient with Hospice Savannah for several months in the summer of 2010 before passing away in Hospice House in mid September.
Her husband Doug, a retired Sun Trust banker from Virginia, and their children have found a fitting way to honor her memory. A beautiful pergola, similar to the one Doug and Terry enjoyed together in their Wilmington Island garden, has been constructed on the grounds behind the west wing of Hospice House.
It was important to the McCoy family that the view from the patient rooms on this wing be as beautiful as that from the others. Their gift includes re-sodding, and planting of vines and flowers which will beautify the entire corner of the property on Savannah's Eisenhower Drive. A plaque above the pergola reads, "Forever remembered. Forever missed. This garden planted in memory of Terry Lee McCoy." |
Loving Memories
Sometimes our staff members amaze me with their eloquence and in-sights. Bereavement Counselor Betsy Kammerud, pictured left, recently wrote a beautiful piece entitled "Run. Walk. Crawl." which I hope will comfort you if the one you love is no longer with you this Valentine's Day...
"When we look on websites or get an instruction booklet, there is always a section called 'FAQ's' or 'Frequently Asked Questions'. Grief and loss support is not all that different. Some of our FAQ's are 'How long will it take until the pain goes away' or 'Is what I am feeling normal because I feel like I'm losing my mind' or 'Am I able to do this on my own?'

Loving Wine
Our thanks to Savannah's unique boutique retail wine shop, Savannah Wine Cellar in Twelve Oaks, for making Hospice Savannah the recipient of donations from their wine tasting with Paolo Demarie. Paolo shared Italian wines from the historic Piedmont region.
