Central Minnesota Regional Science Fair 2012
| |
Al-Amal School participated in the Central Minnesota Regional Science Fair at St. Cloud State University on February 25, 2012. Al-Amal School teams performed extremely well and competed against some of the best teams from Central Minnesota.
16 teams advanced to the state finals in the exhibit and research categories to be held in March 2012. This represented a 400% increase in the number of teams moving to the state finals compared to last year! Al-Amal also received a special award for fielding the most teams in the competition.

Al-Amal's exceptional performance was evident from the following award statistics of its teams. 16 teams won the highest Premium Mention Award and will advance to the state finals. 27 teams won Merit Awards while 5 teams received Honorable Mention.
In addition, Al-Amal teams also won special awards. 4 teams were nominated to compete nationally in the BROADCOM Masters Competition. It is the nation's premier science, technology, engineering, and math competition. A 10th grade team was nominated to compete in I-SWEEP, the International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, and Environment) Project Olympiad. Last year it drew projects from 70 countries and 43 U.S. states to Houston, Texas. Al-Amal was a proud recipient of 3rd prize last year.

The participating students have been spending enormous amount of time working on their science projects. Al-Amal teachers and administration gave their full backing to the students. In particular, Al-Amal science teacher Sr. Hala Bazzi, former Al-Amal parent Dr. Syed Dara, and Al-Amal alum Rawan Hamade played crucial role in the organization and execution of Al-Amal's participation in the science fair.
We wish the best to these teams as they move on to other competitions and the state finals to be held on March 18, 19, and 20.
Al-Amal is looking for sponsors for the teams going to state finals. Please contact the school if you are interested in sponsoring a team.
