Just think how different the political landscape might be if we had a detailed, honest evaluation of what the job requires juxtaposed against each candidate's experience, skill sets, values and behaviors. After all, it is the most important job in the country!

 

We all know that politics affect even our own personal work lives. People are often chosen for positions of authority based on presumptions, personality and pressure from others. It is probably impossible to escape these influences all together, but there is a way to diminish their power. Instead of listening to all of the persuasive voices campaigning for one job applicant or another---Let The Job Talk!

By definition, benchmarking involves comparing to the highest standards with the goal of achieving an improved outcome. Benchmarks are set formally and informally in nearly all areas of life. In the world of nonprofit management, we often refer to "best practices."  

 

Organizations and businesses everywhere are seeking better ways to secure the talent necessary to their success. Whether hiring for key management positions or their next leader...executives, HR professionals and Board members need to be able to do more than simply post an ad and review resumes.
