Alumni Spotlight -

Larry Ginsberg (1977- 1980)

Larry Ginsberg had his heart set on being a Singer, and nothing could pull him away. He was even approached by the UW Crew team to join their squad, but proudly said, "I can't. Won't have time. I'm going to be in the Wisconsin Singers!"

And despite an awkward audition, where Trez Tianen (now Zotkiewicz) yelled, "This is an audition, you idiot" after he stepped on her foot, Larry became a perfect fit for the Wisconsin Singers. (Larry and Trez are now lifelong friends!)

Greetings!

According to the calendar it is December, but it feels like July! I can not believe today is the first day we've had that famous Madison snow. I could get used to this warm December weather.

The On-Campus show was a HUGE success. The Singers could not have asked for anything more. We truly appreciate the support of our family and friends for being there with us on that memorable night.

I hope everyone enjoys the holiday season! It is another great month for family and friends. It is also a great time to give to your favorite non-profit organization. ;)

Happy Holidays!

Jenna Severson, Engagement Coordinator.

On-Campus Success!

The On-Campus show at Overture Hall was a HUGE success. After the show, the lobby was filled with people screaming in excitement. Young children were getting autographs and taking pictures with all their favorite performers. (Singer/dancer Taran O'Reilly even had to sign many autographs for his young fans as "Brick House Dude.") There was cheering, fireworks, and a dancing bear...well maybe not that last stuff, but it was a great evening of music.

Judy Novotny Dazzles the Audiences

The Singers have always looked great on the stage, but it is not just the choreography that draws people's attention. Judy Novotny is the mastermind behind the costumes that keep the Singers sparkling, and the job isn't as easy as it might appear from the audience.

Judy helps with all of the measurements and alterations for the full troupe costumes, but her expertise lies in the specialty character pieces that make the show each year.

Wisconsin Singers -- Behind the Scenes

It is easy to see the hard work the Singers do on the stage, but their behind the scenes work is often overlooked. The Singers commonly participate in interactive clinics that teach high school and middle school students how to develop their music further.

"An interactive workshop offers the opportunity for students to work one on one with our singer/dancers to learn a short segment of the show, giving the guest choir a chance to experience how Wisconsin Singers learn their choreography. We usually do a short question and answer session after our workshops, geared to articulate our experience as students at the UW and encourage students to keep music in their lives, no matter what their intended major," Robin Whitty-Novotny said.
