Alumni Spotlight -
Don Neuen (1967- 1970)
|
Don Neuen began what is thought to be the very first University Show Choir at Ball State University in 1963. Neuen was later invited to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, to become the Director of Choral Activities in 1967. When he came to Wisconsin from Ball State, his only stipulation was that he be permitted to help originate the Wisconsin Singers. Don feels that the rapid popularity and success of the Ball State and Wisconsin Singers has helped evolve similar show choirs at both the collegiate and high school levels. Read More About Don...

Greetings!
School is just starting and a new Singers year is underway. The singers and instrumentalists had a busy production camp, culminating with an excellent first performance at their Friends & Family concert at Music Hall. It looks like it is going to be another successful year for troupe.
Results for America Sings are in, and the Wisconsin Singers came in fourth place out of thousands of entries. That's not too shabby.
Also, a special shout out to Ryan Moldenhauer for his appearance in the Wisconsin State Journal. Way to represent Wisconsin Singers Ryan!
Make sure you attend the November 18th "On Campus" concert, which is going to be held in Overture Hall for a one-night only performance. Plan to be there early and help us fill out the 2,200 seats!
The 44th season has begun! I can't believe it's that time already.

Will Komassa Lights Up the Stage
Whenever Will Komassa goes to a play, concert, or anything that requires a stage, he catches himself looking up, more than watching the actual performance. Why? He is checking out the lighting. Will worked as assistant tech for one year with the Singers, but soon became the head sound engineer for the troupe. This work allowed him to discover the passion he always had for lighting.
"I really liked the stuff I did in Singers. It taught me a ton of skills that I love having," Komassa said. "I found a passion of mine that I was able to take to the next level, which is pretty cool."

The Early Years of Wisconsin Singers
It is well known among our alumni that Wisconsin Singers began way back in 1967. Our 44th season lies ahead, but we wanted to take this opportunity to pay tribute to some of the great history of the Wisconsin Singers.
In the early years of Singers, the instrumentalists also sang with the singer / dancers. They played trumpet, trombone, Saxophone, guitar, banjo, string bass, drums, and cordo-vox from their singing position in the Singers different formations. Many musicians in those original tropes went on to accomplish great things in their careers, including John Clark who was a phenomenal pianist.

On Campus Moves to Overture Hall

This year, the Wisconsin Singers are poised for a great deal of exciting change in conjunction with our annual On Campus event, starting with the performance being held at the beautiful Overture Center. The Overture Center has hosted big name performances from comedian Jerry Seinfeld, musician Yo-Yo Ma, and dozens of Broadway shows. It only seems fitting that the Wisconsin Singers be added to the list with these big name performers.
Unlike years past, this year's On Campus show will be "one night only" to capitalize on the full 2,200 seats in Overture Hall. Be sure to mark your calendar for November 18th and help us sell out this incredible theater and start a new On Campus tradition of success.
Tickets go on sale on October 14 at www.OvertureCenter.com

Wisconsin Sings into 4th Place
The results are in, and this just might be the biggest scandal since Watergate! Although again voted as the top song and dance troupe in the nation, the Wisconsin Singers came in 4th place overall in the nation wide 'America Sings' competition. Out of thousands of entries, the Wisconsin Singers came in 4th place? Something isn't adding up here. We demand a re-count, and another shot at the 10,000 dollars! Read More...
