Alumni Spotlight -

Josh Gohlke (2001-2006)

Josh Gohlke graduated in 2006 after spending five years as a singer/dancer and serving as company manager for the Wisconsin Singers. Today he finds himself working as an editor for the Carson Daily Show, which he credits to his time with Singers.

At first Josh intended to major in psychology, but he soon realized that his true passion was in film. He quickly changed his major to communications.

"Quite honestly Singers has a lot to do with where I am today. The whole time in Singers I always had a camera by my side. I was always filming and documenting for my own reasons," Gohlke said. "I still credit Siri Pinter to this day. She was a singer / dancer that year too. She wanted to know if I wanted to be involved in the end of the year video."

Greetings!

My name is Jenna and I am the new engagement coordinator for Wisconsin Singers. I'm very excited to be here and to keep alumni connected with what's going on. If there is anything I can do to help keep you more connected to the program, please let me know.

Our 44th season is well on its way!  The new show has been written and the student staff is about to start production camp.  For everyone who has gone through production camp before, you know the work and fun that goes along with it.

The team got to meet last month for vocal camp and to participate in the famous Campus Rally that sent us running all over campus. It was a hit! Now it's time to expand on the team chemistry at production camp. There are a lot of new faces this year, but the troupe is looking strong.

Finally, just a friendly reminder to pencil in November 18th on your calendar for a trip back to Madison to join us for our annual "On Campus" concert that Friday night. This season, for the first time ever, we are moving to Overture Hall for a one-night only performance.  Plan early to help us fill all 2,200 seats for this very exciting event!

Enjoy the summer heat. On Wisconsin!

Jenna Severson, Engagement Coordinator.

Goals and Changes in the Year Ahead

Wisconsin Singers is embarking on our 44th season with our newest show "Star Struck." While many traditions hold strong throughout the years, Wisconsin Singers is constantly working on improving our process each season.

One of our first initiatives this year is the continued integration of the business team and performers. It was important for Producer/ Director Robin Whitty-Novotny and Director of Business Operations Chris Novotny to join their teams together.

The Joys of Production Camp

Some of the most memorable experiences as a Wisconsin Singer happen while mounting the show in our annual two week production camp. Production camp starts on Aug. 16th and runs until the team's first dress rehearsal on Sept. 3rd. This period is the Singer's musical boot camp, where the troupe works for 14+ hours each day to learn and rehearse the entire show for the year in this short time span.

"The singers/dancers dance and sing and audition for solos. The band works on their music and the band features. And the techs work on making props, developing the sound and lighting plots for the show and running errands," vocal captain Ryan Moldenhauer describes.
