| Insights in Action at Canadian Bar Association | |
The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) is a professional, volunteer organization representing 38,000 lawyers, judges, notaries, law teachers, and law students from across Canada, including over 6,700 members of the BC Branch. The top three results of an internal survey asking what they would like for professional development included a focus on personality style, leadership development and enhancing communication skills.
On February 1st 2012 an enthusiastic group of 22 members of the Canadian Bar Association engaged in a full day Insights Discovering Team Effectiveness session, facilitated by Insights Vancouver Senior Consultant Kim White. The Executive Director happily reported the team was engaged throughout the day and the learning was kept alive by some creative applications of the day's learnings, and a general appreciation of the importance of understanding differences in perspectives and needs among workmates. Flip charts of key action steps were created and committed to for follow-through by each team.
After the workshop and back in the office, the teams took part in a fun competition focused on furthering staff wellness as well as progress on the action steps. Staff members wore pedometers and tracked their team's progress "walking" from Vancouver to San Francisco (where a key organization event is occurring later this year). Extra kilometers were awarded for high-energy activity, and for contributions as a team to developing a presentation to other staff members about one action priority that would be moved forward by each team. The prize for the "winners" of the race was $500 to spend together on a team activity and day out of the office.

Insights Notes Changes at BCHRMA Conference
| Insights Vancouver was very pleased to support the annual BCHRMA conference with a booth at the tradeshow. The two day event was a fabulous opportunity to meet with so many of our partner organizations and to introduce ourselves to new organizations.
Over the years that we have been at the tradeshow, the traffic at our booth has shifted in dramatic fashion. In the early years, it was all about introducing ourselves to a brave few early adopters...and promoting the Insights Discovery personal profile to a group that had never heard of Insights. As the reputation of Insights grew over the years, we moved to people approaching our booth about how they could bring Insights into their organization. Rather than focusing on the profile alone, it was about workshops for engagement or communication that could be delivered by our team of experts or through accreditation of their internal resources. The past few years have been more about connecting with organizations and internally accredited practitioners that are interested in next steps and increasing their R.O.I. (Return on Insights). They are taking the solid foundation they have with Discovery workshops and building robust, long term programs for succession planning, team development, and change management. While we still meet a few people that are not familiar with Insights, and a few more that are at the beginning stages of using Discovery to build engagement and communication effectiveness, it is extremely gratifying to have so many people stop by to tell us how Insights has had such a positive effect on their personal and professional lives in so many ways. PS - And to the person who stopped at our booth and told us about her son dressing up for Hallowe'en as a Red Insights block with the "Be Brief, Be Bright, Be Gone" logo, we would love to have a picture! |
