Boot Perspective
Mark Hatmaker
A little double-duty here as you can get Boot Camp info in the block to follow. Here I wanted to give upcoming and prospective Boot Camp attendees a preview of what we have on the menu.
First, on the striking agenda, I'm still seeing a whole lot of herky-jerky boxing out-there. A lot of solid Muay Thai, but ,surprisingly, the straight boxing, which has a higher KO yield in the MMA Hierarchy of Utility still seems to lag a bit.
To remedy that we are going to use our new Immersion Drills to inculcate some crisp smoothness that would bring a smile to the late, great Shawn Tompkins face.
In the takedown arena--last year we emphasized the clinch, this year it's the shot. We are going to use a 3-Step Process (literally three steps--Inside, Outside, and Jab-Stepping) to build our Double-Legs, Single-Legs (High & Low--props to Sakuraba) and all their variations.
Once we get the 3-Steps under our belt (or feet, actually) closing the gap woes should decrease and your opponent's lead (matched or un-matched stance) simply won't matter.
On the ground--we want to kill passivity by simply not allowing it for the 2-Day Boot. No going to your back--period.
No worries, we won't leave you high and dry, we'll run drill after drill after drill of reversals and escapes to open avenues to the top position rather than bottom or neutral.
We will also emphasize a grinding top game--one that is aggressive and pressurizing from the get-go. One that will hand you a sub more often than not, but it might be so fun to play top dog you may decide to keep the grinding and pounding up instead.
With that said--we will have subs, of course, but the emphasis will be about slamming your opponent to the mat, keeping him there, grinding him there, riding him there, pounding him there, and getting you from bad to good if you are on the bottom.
Just wanted to be clear on that--I know subs are candy and we all love 'em, but let's wrestle like hard-charging beasts and then add a little bit of sugar here and there.
With that being said, to register see the next block. Have any questions, just say the word. Hope to see you there!
