KILLER RESPONSE: THE BOXER'S BOOK OF COUNTER PUNCHING
(Fall of 2012) Punching and boxing are not the same thing. Punching is what you do with your fists on the heavy bag. Punching is a blind flurry in response to an attack. Boxing, on the other hand, is science. Boxing is more about reaction than action. Most of us can look good throwing shots with no pressure, but it is what you do in response to punches being thrown at you that determines whether you are a boxer or merely someone who punches. It is what you do in-between those punches that separates the boxer from the puncher. True boxing is, essentially, a story of counter-fighting and this comprehensive manual seeks to offer you a complete course in elite counter-attack. You'll learn all the defenses to every shot whether your hands are in prime position or cheated out of play, and then utilize accompanying drills that educate the most pragmatically tactical response based on which shot you've defended with which defense. Novice to pro will find drills of all levels to suit their needs and all drills are separated by category so that you can mix-and-match to tailor to specific strengths, weaknesses, or even opponents.
MUD, GUTS, & GLORY: Tips & Training for Adventure Racers
Adventure racing, mud racing, obstacle course racing, whatever you want to call it, this new phenomenon of competitive physical challenge is all about mud and glory. Adventure racing is based on elements found in some of the world's elite special forces training. These races allow you, the everyday Joe and Josephine to test your mettle against obstacles, terrain, and conditioning similar to what Great Britain's SAS, the US Navy SEALS, US Army Rangers, and others must go through all without the commitment to Uncle Sam, Queen & Country, or suffer live fire (well, maybe a paintball round or two). This book will give you a brief overview of Adventure racing: it's roots and development. It is also your guide to the conditioning required to prepare you for the unusual demands of these courses. Info abounds in the Tactics section where you will learn specific techniques for climbing mud covered ropes, fording swamps, mounting walls, building a more effective belly-crawl, and numerous other tips for the wild chaos that might be pitched your way. The Logistics section gives you insider tips concerning gear, lodging, parking, building a team, and solutions for the ever present problem of just how to get mud out of all your nooks and crannies. Mud, Guts, and Glory is your one-stop guide for having the finest and dirtiest time of your life whether you are racing for fun, or in it to win it.
Pick An Adventure Seminars
Some of us are old-enough to remember a series of interactive books where readers were asked to make a decision and then go to a corresponding page to see what sort of mess you got yourself into. You never quite knew where you were going to wind up with these books--pre-video game era, these were a novel idea.
Here's where you come in, if you'd like to host a seminar and save yourself some bucks off of the standard fees in the process--if you've got an Adventure Race in your area, a rock you think I'd like to climb, a river you think I want to raft, a hike you think I just need to take, a desert I've not run on, you get the idea--pitch your adventure and school location. If the adventure appeals and the logistics are right we offer greatly reduced fees to come to your school and play with your crew before we go play at your Adventure Pitch.
BTW--You and your crew are welcome to attend the adventure, as a matter of fact, we'll knock off even more bucks for this sort of hands-on guiding.
So, you got some adrenaline in your neck-of-the-woods and want to train? Feel free to make your pitch and we'll see what happens.
