Transition Update

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is the financial health of Faith Church?

A: Faith Church is financially healthy. Even in these turbulent economic times, we are managing to keep our expenses in line with our income.  The financial position of Faith Church is assessed at each vestry meeting.  These meetings take place the third Tuesday of each month, and are open to those who attend Faith Church.  The monthly reports are available for review in the church office.

Q: Could Liz have stayed on?

A: Yes, Pastor Liz could have remained in service at FEC, however she chose to answer a new calling to serve at St. Augustine in Rocklin. She will be definitely be missed at Faith.

Q: Will Pastor Liz's position be filled?

A: Once FEC has completed the transition process and a new priest has been recommended by the vestry and approved by the Bishop, the new priest will have the opportunity to make a decision about how the position will be structured and who will fill it. In the interim, Pastor Gene Jewell will assist with some of the congregation's pastoral work during the transition period. Janie Shepard will be leading the Youth Group. Both will receive a stipend for their work.

Q: How do I get involved in the Transition Process?

A: There will be many opportunities for involvement including the Search, Campaign, Goodbye and Welcome Teams. Anyone who is interested in serving in any capacity should contact the Transition Team or Vestry. The Transition Team will advertise opportunities as we progress. The Vestry is responsible for making the final decision on the Search Team that will comprise of 5-8 members.

Q: Will we have an Interim pastor?

A: At this time, we can not definitively answer this question. Typically, Episcopal churches hire an Interim, but our goal is to have the new priest in place when Father McNair leaves Faith Church at the end of 2012.

Q: What will be the role of the new rector's spouse?

A: Although we are fortunate to have a wonderfully involved spouse in Kathy, the type of candidates can vary from married, single, male, female, and have an involved or uninvolved spouse, etc. The Vestry will consider candidate characteristics and skills that best match our mission and congregation.

If you have other questions about the transition, please do not hesitate to bring them to the attention of one of the members of the Transition Team.

Thanksgiving Service

Start your holiday off with a service of Thanks to God.

Wednesday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. at Faith Church.

If you have family or friends visiting, bring them with you! Hearing the thanks offered by others is very inspiring and encouraging!

Operation Christmas Child

New for 2011 - By making your donation online using a credit or debit card you will receive a special shoe box label included in your e-mail receipt. Print or copy the label as many times as you need to attach to each of your boxes.

Your specific barcode is connected to your e-mail address, so it's important to use the same label on each of your boxes. The barcode on the label enables Samaritan's Purse to track each shoe box gift. You will receive an e-mail telling you the destination of your gift, along with information about Operation Christmas Child in that country. Advent Wreaths for Families

by Adriana Findlay

Advent wreathOn November 27th, the first Sunday in Advent, the children's Sunday school classes pre-K through 8th grade will be making Advent wreaths to take home in anticipation of Christmas. A new candle is lit weekly as the season of Advent progresses, as a symbol of our waiting for Christ's appearance in the world. This is a traditional activity of the Sunday school program, and the children enjoy creating the beautiful centerpieces.

To cover expenses, a $5.00 donation per wreath would be very much appreciated!

CAN YOU DONATE SUPPLIES? Please contact Adriana in the church office if you can:

  • donate live greenery (bay leaves, incense cedar, redwood, toyon)
  • donate seed pods (acorns, eucalyptus, liquidamber)

The Christmas Choir is looking for all voices! For those who are too self-conscious to sing directly into a microphone, this choir is for you! We will rehearse on Thursday evenings starting Nov. 17 through Dec. 22 starting at 7:15 p.m. The regular 10:00 worship choir will meet from 6:30 to 7:15 starting Nov. 17. We will perform at the 6:30 p.m. service on Dec. 24 and at the 10:00 service on Sunday, Dec. 25. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!

Food Drive for SHARE

 Sunday, November 13

Our Altar Guild invites you to bring non-perishable foods to Faith Church on Sunday, November 13.

We will have a truck in the parking lot where we will collect all donated non-perishable food items. The truck will be at the church from 8:45 to 11:45 a.m. We will transport the donations to SHARE on Monday, November 14th.

Please remember that with the condition of our current economy all food pantries/closets are suffering from fewer donations and a significant increase in the number of families in need of their services.  Please be generous and help ensure no families go hungry.

A New Life for Your Wardrobe Misfits

 Sunday, November 13

by Alicia Reidenbach

Once again, Faith Church will be having a clothing drive for local homeless families.  Due to limited storage space at Faith Church, the collection will be on Sunday, Nov. 13th only

Donated clothing will be taken to Green Valley Community Church which serves as a support center for the homeless in our county.  Green Valley Church gives away about 5,000 articles of clothing weekly, so the need is great, especially as we approach our rainy winter season.  The center welcomes all clothing (any season) for men, women, and children, but is especially in need of warm clothing for winter months.  To aid in sorting, it would be helpful if bags or boxes are labeled as men's, women's, or children's clothing.

Now's the time to dig deep into your closets and help those in need of clothing.  Last year we collected 140 bags of clothing.  Let's help those in need again!  If you have questions, contact Marc Cattapan or Alicia Reidenbach, who are both listed in our online directory.

Outreach Focus

Kellermann Foundation

by Carrie Grip

Faith Church has been a long-time supporter of the Kellermann Foundation, a ministry that supports the Bwindi Community Hospital in Uganda. Bwindi hospital

Like many countries worldwide, Uganda is still grappling with the HIV pandemic that has lasted almost three decades now. The Bwindi Community Hospital (BCH) has actively addressed the problem, resulting in a decrease of positive HIV cases from 14% to 4% in the past four years. This drop is due to both a decrease in HIV prevalence and an increase in the hospital's outreach efforts allowing more people to receive testing.  BCH was the first hospital to bring routine voluntary HIV counseling and testing to the Bwindi area.

They are also experiencing success with Tuberculosis detection and access to treatment. They continue to help all HIV positive pregnant women to give birth to HIV negative babies (PMTCT). An audit of children born at the hospital in 2010 indicates that 91% of babies who were discharged during the audit period tested negative for HIV after 18 months.
