Attention MHS Volunteers

Mission Hospice Society is presently seeking additional Bereavement Volunteers to help provide support to individuals, families, and groups in the Mission area (interested applicants must have already completed the 30 hr. Hospice training course)

Our programs & services are flourishing and throughout the past 6 months, we have seen an influx of new bereavement referrals.

Bereavement support services you can be involved with include:

One-to-one support by phone and/or in person by the coordinator or trained volunteers. The initial commitment is for weekly contact, which may decrease, over a six-month period, which may be extended in consultation with the bereavement program coordinator.

  • Pathways: 10-week adult bereavement support group. Runs spring, summer (drop-in/ bi-monthly), autumn and winter.
  • Tea and Company: ongoing support for widows
  • Monthly Tues. Potluck: for bereavement program participants
  • Special theme support groups according to needs and resources
  • Community educational presentations
  • Children's Summer Camp(s)

At present, we continue to consult with the Mission School District and agencies  to develop the children's programs. Throughout the season, we have been referring the children to our "sister" hospices and/or outside counselling services.

Please contact MHS Coordinator of Bereavement Programs for additional information or to schedule an appointment.

Office: 604-826-2235 or email: kthompson@missionhospice.bc.ca

Self-care is integral to this work. Know what supports you-gives you strength and balance-and make a commitment to yourself to do those things. Also know what the your warning signals are when you are over-stressed

The Mission Hospice Society provides compassionate care and support to individuals with terminal illness, their families, and the bereaved in the community of Mission and in the Christine Morrison Hospice Residence.

The Christine Morrison Hospice is a state-of-the-art hospice residence that serves Mission, Abbotsford, and the surrounding communities.
