Commedia Dell'arte
To start the year off in the Drama room at King David, new Grade 9 students are learning from the experienced Grade 10's in the art of Commedia Dell'arte.  Using hand made Venetian masks, the class is practicing with physical comedy and learning how to create their own lazzi, which means 'improvised comedy action'.  Traditionally, Commedia was performed in busy market places, so for their final assessment the class will be doing a public performance during a lunch time in a busy area of the school.
Alex, Grade 10, and Gil, Grade 9, practice their lazzi
Head of School (HOS) Survey
A survey was emailed to a variety of King David's stakeholder groups on Thursday, September 27 asking for participation in our Board evaluation of Russ Klein, Head of School. Each stakeholder group survey has different questions so people may be receiving more than one survey to complete. We thank you in advance for taking the time to complete these surveys - each survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete.  Thank you for your participation.
Uniform Reminder
All families are reminded that as of October 3rd all students must be in full compliance of our school uniform policy.

This includes having all-black shoes, skirts of appropriate length (2-3" above the knee) and all required uniform pieces. Please ensure that your student is in the appropriate uniform as we want them all in class learning with their teachers and peers. Families needing to order uniform items should contact Cambridge and Company immediately to ensure timely delivery. A copy of the KDHS uniform policy is included in the Parent Handbook and is available at the school office.
KDHS Volunteers at the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup
Every year, tens of thousands of Canadians take action against aquatic debris by participating in the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup. Jointly led by the Vancouver Aquarium and WWF, this initiative focuses on educating and empowering people to make a difference through co
Ms. Baloun and Dena, Grade 11, worked together
mmunity cleanup events.

In 2011, 56,293 registrants cleaned  3,144km filling 11,794 garbage bags wieghing 143,737kg.  This year, King David is proud to have played a small part in cleaning up a section of our local shoreline. This was the first initiative of our new King David Green Team.

Look for new projects like composting - coming soon!
Message for Sukkot

On the fifteenth day of the seventh month (Tishrei) when you gather the year's produce, you shall celebrate the holiday of Hashem for seven days

.... You shall live in Sukkot for seven days... in order that the generations to come shall know that I provided Sukkot for the Bnei Yisroel when I took them out of Egypt. (Vayikra 23:39-43)

Rabbi Akiva translated the verse literally. The people made themselves tents in the desert and it is to these tents that the verse refers. The challenge to this interpretation is that the people entered the desert, and enjoyed the protection of their tents during the hot month of Nisan -- six months before. Why do we wait half a year and celebrate the protection of these Sukkot now in Tishrei?
