Safe Travels!
We wish our Grade 8 students, Dorin EIlon-Heiber, Russ Klein and Laura Campbell a wonderful experience in Israel!
Kol Hakavod to the Cast and Crew of Mulan!
A huge Mazal tov to Ms Ralph, the Drama department and the wonderful cast and crew of Mulan! It was a truly enjoyable, well executed and entertaining evening!
              Natalie Rosengarten, KDHS Board Co-President

Who knew that the Huns invading China could be so much fun! A modern twist on an old tale certainly filled the Norman Rothstein Theatre with laughter.

The cast and crew, under the superb guidance of King David's Drama teacher, Melanie Ralph, produced a slick and funny show. Accomplished pianist, Grade 12 student, Jacqueline N. provided excellent musical accompaniment throughout the performance. Thank you to Johnny Seguin, Music teacher for his guidance and support.

A special thank you to the Betty Averbach Foundation for generously supporting King David's Drama and Music Departments and to Gaynor and Ivor Levin for their generous contribution towards the production of Mulan.

Izzy F. assists Mulan as she dresses to meet the Matchmaker.
Mia K., the Matchmaker
Chi Fu, Chinese Bureaucrat (Remey K.) addresses Captain Shang (Gil A.), Qian-Po (Tyler H.), Chinese soldiers (Matty F. and Alex L.)and Mulan (Samantha L.).
The soldiers ignore the message Mulan is trying to share about the approach of the Hun army.
Mushu (Suzy F.) and Mulan share the stage with the Emeorer (Dara F.)
Grandma Fa (Josha R.) smiles as Captain Shang speaks with Mulan after defeating the Hun
The Ancestors  (Mikaela F., Noga G. and Jillian B.) are overjoyed that Mulan has brought honour to the family and found a husband!
Critical Teen Thinking by Ophir Pick, Grade 12
March 1 marked the 20th anniversary of the High School Debates, which are presented by Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver and King David High School (KDHS). Each year, the debates provide an opportunity for Vancouver's Jewish youth to voice their opinions on important issues by developing clever and playful arguments. This year, more than 88 students on 25 debate teams were supported by 150 parents, friends and teachers.
Grade 8 students, Josha R., Rachel P., Ally K. and Matty F. prepare for
their debate.
he level of debate each year gets people to think - the students, observers and the judges. This year was no different, with the event centering around controversial topics of concern to the Jewish people on the international stage and, more specifically, those about Israel, issues that many adults and world leaders struggle to discuss calmly and openly. Students debated the following topics:

* Grade 8: "Be it resolved that Israel should not negotiate with terrorists."

* Grades 9-10: "Be it resolved that an Israeli citizen who was granted a right to settle by the current or any previous government cannot be forcibly evicted."

* Grades 11-12: "Be it resolved that the government of Israel is obligated to create economic parity for all its citizens."

Kol hakavod to all of the participants and this year's winning teams:

Grade 8 Pro:              KDHS Team 1, KDHS Team 2, Shalhevet Team 2
Grade 8 Con:             KSHD Team 5
Grades 9-10 Pro:      PTI Team 2, KDHS Team 9, KDHS Team 11
Grades 9-10 Con:     PTI Team 1, Shalhevet Team 3
Grades 11-12 Pro:    KDHS Team 11
Grades 11-12 Con:   Torah High/NCSY, KDHS Team 13, KDHS Team 15.

Grade 11 students, Guy H., Jacob P., Josh J. and Shane H. discuss their strategy.

KDHS History - Perry Seidelman
Since I retired, one of the things keeping me busy is being a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Historical Society of B.C.  During this time, I have come to realize how important the history of each of our Jewish institutions is and how valuable records and documents can be.
                                           Perry Seidelman

Over the years of the our school's history, numerous activities have occurred with most, if not all, being accompanied by documentation of their occurrence.  Included among such documentation might be photographs and videos as well as programs, newspaper articles and newsletters. Some of these may be organized in some manner but many of them are not organized in any kind of meaningful way. Much is stored at King David but, many of you; staff, students and alumni, as well as parents of current students and alumni, have meaningful items in your homes. With your help, I am hoping a KDHS archive can be created that will be organized and useful and will help to ensure that the wonderful things that occur at the school will be an important and continuing part of the school's history as well as that of the Vancouver Jewish Community.

At this time, I am looking for people who may be interested in helping to organize this. An email address has been created especially for this at archives@kdhs.org . If you feel that you would like to be part of this, please email me at this address.
