This Week's Featured Teacher

Meghan Byrne discovered her passion for teaching by

Meghan Byrne

directing her first play in Grade 11.  It was written by a peer and her sense of accomplishment sent her through the roof.  She directed 7 more plays that year at her high school, Seaquam Secondary, in Delta.  She left Delta and moved to Vancouver to receive her Bachelor of Arts in 2007 from the University of British Columbia with a double major in English and Theatre. During this time, she developed a musical theatre program and continued her passion for teaching and creating Drama.  The next year she received, also from UBC, her Bachelor of Education focusing on secondary school English and Drama.

In the 2008-2009 school year, Meghan worked at Rockridge Secondary School as a Drama, English and ESL teacher.  During this year, the theatre company produced three plays and Meghan was part of a theatre company trip to New York. In the summers, she teaches senior English with the Vancouver School Board.

In September 2010, Meghan joined the staff at KDHS as the Drama and Yearbook teacher.  Highlights for Meghan from last year were watching the students perform and work backstage in the musical, Once Upon a Mattress; the One Act Play Night and the accomplishments of the student actors and directors; all of the activities and generous spirit of Mitzvah Day, and a very successful yearbook and an amazing yearbook crew.  She hopes to top all of these accomplishments in the coming year.

"What I find so compelling about teaching at King David is the chance to teach students in so many settings.  The classroom walls do not contain the learning that happens at this school and that is encouraged by administration, teachers and students."

Currently, Meghan is pursuing a diploma in Language and Literature in Education with a specialization in English as a Second Language at UBC.
