Hepatitis B Facts
Every year, about 40,000 people in the U.S. become infected with hepatitis B. Acute hepatitis lasts from a few weeks to several months. Many infected people are able to clear the virus and remain virus-free after the acute stage. However, for others, the virus remains in the body, and they develop chronic hepatitis B infection, which is a serious, lifelong condition.
About 1.2 million people in the U.S. have chronic hepatitis B. Of these, 15% to 25% will develop more serious health problems, such as liver damage, cirrhosis, liver failure, and liver cancer, and some people die as a result of hepatitis B-related disease. Hepatitis B can be spread from one person to another from the blood, semen, or other body fluids of an infected person. WebMD Source: WebMD | |

What is meningococcal disease?
Meningococcal disease also known as meningitis is a serious illness. It causes the tissues that surround the brain and spinal cord to swell and become inflamed.
Meningococcal disease is caused by a certain type of bacteria that can make your child very sick. It can be spread through kissing, sharing the same water bottle or cup, coughing or sneezing.
Meningococcal disease type B (MnB) causes 1 out of every 3 cases of meningococcal disease in the US.
There are vaccines for other types of meningococcal disease but there is no vaccine to prevent MnB.
The goal of this clinical trial is to help doctors understand if an investigational vaccine for MnB works by itself and in combination with the MCV4 (a licensed vaccine against 4 other types of meningococcal disease) and Tdap (a licensed vaccine against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) vaccines and to compare those results with children who did not receive the investigational vaccine for MnB.

Greetings!
With time, immunity from childhood vaccines can fade and you may be at risk for new and different diseases. The specific immunizations you need are determined by factors such as your age, lifestyle, high-risk conditions, type and locations of travel, and previous immunizations. Throughout your adult life, you need immunizations to get and maintain protection against:
- Seasonal influenza (flu)
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (for adults who've not received it)
- Shingles (adults 60+)
- Pneumococcal Disease (adults 65+ & with certain conditions)
- Hepatitis B (adults with type 2 diabetes & those at risk for Hep B)
Talk to your doctor about which vaccinations are recommended for you or visit recommended immunizations for Adults or take this quiz to see which vaccines are right for adolescents and adults. (source: CDC)
Rapid Medical Research is currently looking for adolescents and adults to participate in one of three vaccine studies. If you or someone you know has a child 10-12 years of age or are 18+, you or they may qualify for one of our studies. Please see below for details on each of our vaccine studies and contact us at 888 460-2275 x292 to learn more to see if you may qualify.
Please view the additional studies in this newsletter that RMR is currently recruiting for and contact us if you are interested in learning more.

Hepatitis B Vaccine Clinical Research Study in Adults With or Without Type 2 Diabetes |
Hepatitis B is a disease of the liver caused by a virus. Hepatitis B may be prevented by vaccination. People with type 2 diabetes have higher rates of being infected with hepatitis B than people without diabetes.
Rapid Medical Research is currently looking for volunteers to participate in an upcoming clinical research study for an investigational Hepatitis B Vaccine.
Qualified participants must be 20 years of age or older and have a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes within the past 5 years. We are also looking for individuals without type 2 diabetes to participate in the study.
All study-related exams and vaccines will be given at no cost and compensation will be provided for time and travel. |
| Meningitis Type B Vaccine Study (Ages 10-12) |
Children come across a lot of viruses in their daily routine. That's why it's important to protect them with available vaccines.
Rapid Medical Research is currently conducting a clinical research study of an investigational vaccine to prevent meningococcal disease type B in children ages 10-12. Volunteers may receive approved vaccines that protect against other types of meningitis and tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis.
Study vaccines and related exams are provided at no cost and compensation will be given for time and travel. |
| Elderly Influenza Vaccine Research Study | |
Are you 65 years of age or older?
Rapid Medical Research is looking for volunteers to participate in a clinical research study of an investigational vaccine for the prevention of influenza.
Qualified participants may receive:
- study-related physical exams
- study vaccine and lab work at no charge
- compensation for time and travel
If you or someone you know is 65 years of age or older and has not had a vaccine for influenza in the past 6 months, please call Rapid Medical Research at 888 460-2275 or 216 682-0320.

If you qualify and choose to participate, you will receive all study-related services at no charge including:
- Doctor visits and laboratory services
- Structured weight management program
- Regular and convenient consultations with a certified health and fitness coach
