Strive to be more

Welcome Back!

Nurse's Note

Welcome back, I am beginning my fourth year here at STM school as the School Nurse.  I am a Registered Nurse and have worked on a medical-surgical floor, doctor's office, urgent care and Catholic schools. I enjoy caring for your children.  Please contact me with any changes or medical problems that arise during the year so we can work as a team.  My clinic hours are Mon,Tues,Wed and Friday 7:30-3:30. On Thursdays, Mrs. Bauer provides first aid services in the clinic and is trained in CPR and First Aid. We also have 31 other staff members who are certified in CPR and First Aid training, ready for the new school year. We have 8 staff members trained in medication administration by Va. Dept. of Social Services.

Thanks to all the parents who have been diligently updating your child's emergency medication and doctor forms.  Each new or returning child who needs emergency medicine in school must have it on site in order for us to be prepared.  If your child needs emergency medicine for food allergy, asthma or other medical condition, there is no "grace period" for completion of forms or bringing in medicine.  These items must be on site no later then Friday morning in order for your child to remain in classes.  This is for your child's safety.

EXTENDED DAY:

If your student uses our extended day program regularly or on a drop in basis and also has medicine for a chronic condition in the school clinic, we need a second bottle/inhaler in the extended day office. Epipen pairs can be split and put in clinic and extended day. It is required by Arlington County regulation that we have medicine easily accessible by the extended day staff.

Therefore, we are requiring a second dose of your child's medication to be kept in the extended day area in a locked cabinet.  This is for your child's safety and will also enable us to respond quickly to your student's needs. No further forms are needed if you have submitted the doctor's orders/plans to the school nurse for this school year already.
