Bishop Loverde invites you to read his pastoral letter

heartofchrist -- in spiritual preparation for a diocesan wide
event which will take place on November 20, 2011, in the Cathedral of Saint Thomas More at 9:30 a.m.
The Diocese of Arlington will be consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Similarly, each parish will be led in a consecration on that same weekend at each of the Masses. As part of this consecration, parishioners will be provided with an image of the Sacred Heart to enthrone in their homes, with a place for families and individuals to sign their names in recognition of their own consecration to the Sacred Heart. Please take a few minutes to read Bishop Loverde's pastoral letter.

Open House - Huge Success
Today we hosted over twenty new families at our open house. Thank you to all the families who passed the word about our school as well as those who provided the treats for the prospective families to enjoy. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Ali Chen, Mrs. Raylene Rozzi, Mrs. Cindy Kaul, and Mrs. Noemi Lopez-Riviera for their assistance in giving tours to the new families. A very special thank you goes to the STM Student Ambassadors for their participation in today's event. Our visitors commented on the respectful and knowledgeable manner in which Angela McGlathery, Minh Nguyen, Juan Class, Hugo Bonilla, Riley Paul, Joshua Gardiner, and Brandon Phan represented our school. Thanksgiving Food Drive

Pizza Lunch
Pizza Lunch this Friday will benefit the 4th grade. Please consider volunteering between 11:00 and 1:30. If you can't be there for the whole time, that's OK. We'd love to see you for any part of pizza lunch. Also, please send in non-food and healthy snack items for the Market Table. Please remember that we sell everything on the Market Table for 25 cents!

Make-up Pictures
Tuesday, November 22

If your student was absent or wants to have retakes done, or if a parent doesn't like the first picture, they can send the package that they have already purchased back and it will be replaced by the picture from the retakes.
If parents want to order retakes and did not order the first pictures, please contact the STM office for a form.

Nurse's Note
A sincere thank-you to Mrs. Zamer, Ms. O'Boyle, Mrs. Rozzi, Mrs. Bickham and Mrs. Gray who volunteered on Monday, 11-7, with the hearing and vision testing. We tested 184 children. Those with abnormal results will be retested individually by me and parent notified if there is a problem. Only children who didn't pass test after retesting will be notified by mailed letter.

Hot Lunch
Hot Lunch menus for the month of December have been distributed. You can also access the form online. Forms are due no later than this Friday, November 18, 2011 because of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Save the Date
On Tuesday, December 6, following the 6:30 pm PTO board meeting, St. Thomas More Cathedral School invites you to an evening "coffee" with our counselor, Mrs. Jane McKean. Mrs. McKean will address the topic of social aggression and the life skills children need to manage aggressive situations. Mrs. McKean will discuss the lessons she has shared with the students as well as provide tips for parents. Light refreshments will be served and babysitting will be available. See the attached flyer.

Yearbook Cover Contest
Submissions Due this Friday, November 18th
All students are welcome to enter into this year's Yearbook Cover Contest. The drawing should be based on our school theme: We Are Known By Our Love. The cover design must be submitted on 8 1/2 x 11 white paper using FULL COLOR. You may use markers, colored pencils, or crayons, but please keep in mind that the stronger colors will photograph better. The paper must be vertical, not horizontal and the year, 2011-2012, and St. Thomas More School must be on the cover. Print your name and homeroom number on the back lightly in pencil and submit to Mrs. Meehan's room (room 5).

Enrichment
Thank you to all the children who participated in the inaugaral session of Enrichment classes. Most of the first sessions are now wrapping up. If you are interested in signing up for the next session, please watch our website and email blast for those details.

Back to Basics I (2 - 4 grade) - last class December 19, 2011. More information to follow.

Robotics - we will be offering Competitive Robotics in the second session, which is more intensive than the previous class. Classes will begin January 2012, more information to follow.
