THANKS FOR YOUR PATIENCE!
As a result of the bad storm on Wednesday, June 23 the power was out at the entire Village Market Shopping Center for 42 hours forcing us to remain closed until noon on Friday.

Marvine was there both mornings that the club was closed to let members know the status and to be on hand to open as soon as the power went on, and Angel and Katie were there during the afternoons for the same purpose.

We were also able to post status on the website beginning on Thursday.  In future, please remember to keep an eye on our website - we were told that other occupants of the shopping center were watching our website so they would know if they should go to work!

We appreciated your patience during this unavoidable closure.  We were frankly moved by how central Oasis is to our members' lives!

And don't worry about the Anniversary Challenge - we will count the days we were closed towards your June attendance!

Check the Sub Schedule during July
There are no changes to the class schedule in July.

It is, however, a month when many of our wonderful instructors take a well-earned vacation, so you may want to keep an eye on our sub schedule, posted at the front desk and on our website.  (click here to link to the sub schedule on the website) (Scroll down to the bottom of the webpage to see the listing of subs.)

We try to continuously update this list as changes occur, but please do understand that sometimes there are very last minute changes due to extenuating circumstances.

Also, we hate for you to miss a workout (and we know you hate it too!)  so we try to find a  sub who can do the same class at the same time, our next alternative is to run a different class in the time slot, and we only cancel as a last resort.

Move of the Month - the "Dive Bomber"

Dive BomberThis month's move comes from Cheryl Dore, NPTI certified personal trainer.

"I love to challenge my clients with dive bomber push ups! Not your ordinary push up by any means, the dive bomber not only works the muscles of the upper body but challenges your core, stabilizing muscles, back extensors AND gives you a good stretch when in the downward-facing dog position.

This is an advanced exercise and before attempting it you should be able to successfully perform at least 5  'perfect' pushups on your toes!  If you are not there yet, keep practicing your pushups until you can do five!  Then you're ready for dive bombers!"

1.  Start in downward-facing dog, hands slightly more than shoulder width apart hips lifted, heels reaching down.

2.  Glide chest forward and through arms, bringing it down between your hands and arching back toward ceiling: hover hips 2 to 3 inches off floor.

3.  Reverse, pressing into hands in bringing hips back up to downward-facing dog.

Start by performing 3 sets of 3 repetitions.  When this gets easy, increase your repetitions to 5, eventually working up to 3 sets of 8.

Follow Food Safety Tips When Grilling Out

When preparing for this year's cookout or holiday celebration, it is important to follow food safety tips.  The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) suggests following these cookout safety tips to prevent a food-borne illness also known as the "summer bug".

Clean Up!
Always wash hands before handling food.
Clean counters and dining areas before eating.
Avoid using the same plate and utensils when handling raw meat and poultry.
Use disposable moist towelettes when there is no running water.

Cook Food Thoroughly
Poultry should be cooked to 165 degrees F
Ground hamburger and pork are safe to eat at 160 degrees F
Beef, veal and lamb should be cooked (medium) to 165 degrees F

Two Hour Rule
Perishable foods should not be left out for more than two hours.  It is a good habit to put these items in cooler right after eating. (No more than one hour if outdoor temperature is above 90 degrees).

Pack the extra space in your cooler with ice, fruit or nonperishable foods.  A full cooler stays cold longer.

Keep coolers in the shade.  Avoid opening the lid too often to keep the cool air inside.

Mango Salsa Recipe
To add some "zip" to your grilled meat, poultry or fish or just for dipping, try this spectacular Mango Salsa.

Ingredients:
1 mango, peeled, seeded and chopped
¼ cup finely chopped red bell pepper
1 green onion, chopped
2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
1 fresh jalapeno chile pepper, finely chopped
2 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon lemon juice

Directions:
In a medium bowl, mix mango, red bell pepper, green onion, cilantro, jalapeno, lime juice, and lemon juice.  Cover, and allow to sit at least 30 minutes before serving.  You can also chill.

Only 20 calories per serving (serves 8).  Loaded with vitamins and antioxidants!
Enjoy!
